Yahoo! South Korea News articles about and photos of the two pilots, and one of the pilots’ father.
They will be remembered with honour. <(T_T)
BTW, I don’t know whether the ROKAF has announced the serial number or squadron yet?
Also, assuming the ROKAF fans in ROK parallel the ROCAF fans in ROC and the JASDF fans in Japan, I guess the Web must have ROKAF fan sites that are either general sites, or sites dedicated to one particular ROKAF aircraft type, such as the KF-16. Any such site is foreigner-friendly?
(For comparison, a ROCAF fan site or two are in English, but I don’t seem to recall any JASDF fan site in English.)

The last time a ROKAF F-16 crashed and its ejected pilot was picked out of the drink, I bookmarked some sites of South Korean newspapers in English.

Lt. Park In-chul, who was killed when the KF-16 jet fighter he was piloting crashed into the West Sea on Friday.
A KF-16 jet fighter crashed into the West Sea on Friday, presumably killing its pilot Capt. Park In-chul (27) of the 52nd Air Force Academy class. Park’s father, an Air Force pilot himself, was also killed in a jet fighter accident in 1984. Maj. Park Myung-ryul, a graduate of the 26th Air Force Academy class, was killed when an F-4E Phantom jet fighter he was piloting during the Korea-U.S. joint Team Spirit military exercise crashed. Park junior was only five years old at the time.

“How Many More Military Planes Must Crash?”
A KF-16, the main fighter jet of the Korean Air Force, crashed into the West Sea at around 9 p.m. last Friday. This is the fifth crash involving a KF-16 fighter jet August 1997. It’s been only five months since another KF-16 crash in the West Sea last February exposed widespread incompetence in maintenance operations as well as a breakdown of discipline within the ranks of the Korean Air Force.

Yet another KF-16 fighter jet crashed last Friday, leaving us at a loss for words. The crash occurred only five months after the same type of jet crashed over the East Sea. Five months ago, a faulty engine caused the crash.

ROCAF F-16 x 2
To be concise…
] What did the F-4 have that was better than the F-104?
For comparison, the JASDF chose the F-4EJ as the (then) Next F-X to replace its F-104J/DJ.
One of the criteria when the JASDF chose the F-4EJ and later F-15J/DJ, was these have two engines. The F-86D/F and F-104J/DJ had one engine, and had to be ditched when they had engine trouble and couldn’t mid-air restart the engine. With two engines, reliable or not, as Japan is an island country, the aircraft had a better chance to return to over ground.
BTW, when Japan designed the FS-X, a two-engine aircraft was initially preferred.
] The F-104 had very temperamental performance characteristics.
The F-104 was a high-performance aircraft, not very suitable for newbie pilots, IMO.
] Read some of the manuals on tactics devised for the aircraft in the Vietnam War.
During the Viet Nam War era, the only USAF F-104 air-to-air loss was when one USAF F-104 that got lost near Hai Nan Island, Commie China, was gunned down by a PLAN J-6.
Else, the other USAF F-104 losses were by North Viet Nam SAMs, when the F-104s escorted attackers and bombers, and the F-104s were poorly equipped against SAMs.
OTOH, over the Taiwan Strait, during the 113 Air Battle, the PLAAF claimed to shoot down one ROCAF F-104 that was returning to base. The four ROCAF F-104s and one ROCAF RF-104 were going home, within radio contact but without visual contact with each other, and one of them failed to return. The missing pilot’s final message was a sudden gasp or grunt.
] On the other hand, its actual combat record seems to put it in the losing end to MiGs.
AFAIK, the Pakistani AF F-104s weren’t too hot against the Indian AF MiG-21s?
] This, despite the dangers, makes the Starfighter a potent low altitude strike jet, where a smooth stable ride down low is vital.
IIRC, the PLAAF/PLAN didn’t shoot down any ROCAF RF-104?
] The “export success” of the F-104 itself is mired by bribery scandals in Germany and Japan.
If not because of the Lockheed Incident, the JASDF could’ve chosen the F-11F.

VMAX Marketing is proud to announce that Starfighters, the only civilian-owned flight demonstration team of its kind worldwide, is now offering companies the opportunity to have their sponsorship and marketing programs soar to new heights. Starfighters will debut their headlining performance of three F-104s in formation during the second half of 2007. The team will add to the excitement by introducing additional aircraft throughout the upcoming years. There are no aircraft comparable to Starfighters available for sponsorship. The Navy’s Blue Angels and Air Force Thunderbirds cannot allow sponsorships due to their military status.
