in/from 1954, the JMSDF received from the USN: ten pairs of one TBM-3W (recon) and one TBM-3S (attack), for ASW.
Five pairs in 1954, two pairs in 1955, and three pairs in 1956.
Actually, in that photo, the bloke in light/white trench coat covered the first word that defines it as JGSDF (ground) or JMSDF (sea).
OTOH, the Vampire’s now retiring at the JASDF museum at Hamamatsu AB, Shizuoka Prefecture.

“Boeing Begins Flight Tests and Laser Firings for Laser Gunship Program”
ST. LOUIS, Oct. 13, 2006 — The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] has begun flight testing for the Advanced Tactical Laser (ATL) Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration (ACTD) program and has generated “first light” of ATL’s high-energy chemical laser in ground tests, achieving two key milestones in the laser gunship development effort.
I guess:
C-X > C-2
The JASDF had/has the F-86, F-104, F-4, and F-15, and it still re-numbered the T-2 variant and FS-X as F-1 and F-2, and it already has a C-1, so I guess C-X to C-2 is logical. At least it has the C-130, and didn’t re-number the C-1 as “C-131”.
P-X > P-1 or P-4
OTOH, the JMSDF already has the P-3, so I don’t know whether it will re-number the P-X as P-1 or P-4.
For comparison, the Pakistani AF already has the F-16, and it re-numbered the FC-1 locally as JF-17. 8b
