Beech T-34C-1 Turbo Mentor. 3402. S/N T-3402, 84002. C/N GP-8.
ROCAF.
About 1:08 PM, took off for training, at ROCAF Academy, Kang Shan AB, Kao Hsiung County.
About 2:02 PM, disappeared from radar.
Crashed, near Hong Shui Keng mountainous area, Xin Liao Village, Liu Gui Town, Kao Hsiung County.

Two crew were killed. Bodies recovered by SAR helo to Kang Shan Hospital.

Graduated in 1984. In 2007, retired as ROCAF Lieutenant Colonel, after 20 years as instructor pilot.
Had two sons: one at Taiwan University, and another at Zhong Hua University.

Second Lieutenant LIU Zhe Hong (26). Student pilot. 2 hours 20 minutes.
This is his third flight. Previously completed two classes of two hours of flight training.
Graduated from electrical engineering at Lung Hwa (Long Hua) University of Science and Technology.

Lived with parents in Wen Shan district, Taipei City. (Had one older sister?)

Witnesses claimed the crash site was a river valley bottom. They saw a fireball, noise, and they phoned the fire department.
Training flight was from Qi Shan Town, Kao Hsiung County; to training area in northern Chia Yi County. Flight ceiling was 12,000′.

3402 imported from Canada in 1985. Safe flight time is 16,000 hours.
Before accident, flight time is 7,600 hours. Engine inspection completed on 14 December.

205th Kyouiku Koukuutai, Shimofusa Kyouiku Koukuugun, JMSDF, based at Shimofusa AB.
Decommission ceremony. First two to decommission amongst 10 JMSDF YS-11 and 13 JASDF.

1970 to 1974, YS-11TA entered service.

These two are two of six of 205th Kyouiku Koukuutai, Shimofusa Kyouiku Koukuugun.
16 June 1970, #02 entered service.
17 August 1970, #03 entered service.
17,700 hours in 40 years.

Basic education courses of 205th, transferred to 203rd and 211th.

After landing, for unknown reason, landing gear handle became “up” position, landing gear system functioned, and landing gear retracted. Accident landing gear function and system were normal.

After accident, JASDF executes:
Visual comfirmable marking to display landing gear handle at “down” position.
Safety eduction of confirmation after toggling landing gear handle.
