“Helicopter crashes in S.Korea, killing 3 people”
Associated Press , Seoul | Mon, 11/23/2009 3:09 PM | World
Three people are dead following the crash of a government helicopter in southern South Korea.
The state-run Korea Forest Service says that one of its helicopters went down into a lake in Yeongam on Monday during a training mission. The lake is about 240 miles (380 kilometers) south of Seoul.
http://kr.news.yahoo.com/service/news/shellview.htm?articleid=20091124023028871h2&linkid=4&newssetid=1352
has a map of the crash site, and
http://kr.news.yahoo.com/service/news/shellview3.htm?linkid=197&ac=view&pid=sok&articleid=2009112315494760475
has a photo of the crash site… and the serial number looks like FP70, FP76, or FP78?
The text seemingly mention the crew’s names and ages, but I don’t know whether it mentions the Ka-32T serial number?
] Would you care to elaborate???
(Off-topic alert.)
No problemo, dude.
As I was a flight-simmer, I prefer a fighter with a built-in gun, instead of in a gun pod that costs a hard-point.
Also, air-to-ship missions are rare. In the ’82 Falklands, the Super Etendards shot IIRC only five air-launched Exocets; the one that hit the HMS Glamorgan was ground-launched.
In the ’91 Second (Persian) Gulf War (or Desert Shield/Desert Storm), IIRC a Canadian AF CF-18 on SURCAP (surface CAP) strafed and fired a Sidewinder at a fleeing Iraqi gunboat, but missed.
And as the AFM editors may know, I’m one of the usual suspects amongst their contributors to their “Attrition” feature.
Given the evidently excellent maintenance of the Japanese military (relative to other Northeast Asian militaries with similar US hardware, such as the South Koreans and Taiwanese), and the transparency of the Jap media, news of Jap military aviation major accidents are rare.
F-2s were in active service for years, before one was written off.
I was reading this Heisei 22 (FY 2010) JMOD budget request.
http://www.mod.go.jp/j/library/archives/yosan/2010/yosan_gaiyou_point.pdf
From page 9 are the amounts of hardware received in Heisei 21, and the amounts and costs of hardware requested for Heisei 22.
The one 22DDH that JMSDF requests, costs 1,181 oku Yen, or 118.1 bil Yen.
Personally, other requests that interest me are on page 11.
Third from bottom is an air-defense high-power laser weapon research, for 1.8 bil Yen.
Bottommost is an advanced technology proof of concept aircraft (high-mobility stealth aircraft) research, for 23.2 bil Yen.
] Any 3 view?? or pre-desing??

] The F-35 is an extremely formidable Tactical Fighter.
1st impression: IMO, a F-35 firing an internal cannon, or launching anti-ship missiles, would look fun.
And as usual, I await the first accident with a JASDF F-35, or JGSDF AH-64, or JMSDF MCH-101.

(For years, I still don’t understand why Israel and Taiwan didn’t procure STOVL fighters, esp the Harrier series, since their air bases are very vulnerable to hostile surface-to-surface missiles?)

During landing, affected by cross wind from left, pilot shifted aircraft to left, to maintain straight heading.
Pilot depressed brake pedal in incorrect direction, tires side-slipped, and aircraft ran off left side of runway.
He has long experience in F-15, but this was his third flight in F-2.
Instructor pilot’s [Major Kobayashi] left wrist lightly wounded.
