Can’t make the 4th as it’s Duxfords 1st airshow, hopefully make Brooklands though.
It wears a blue overall colour with a red spinner and has the roundals from each country that operated it on the wings and fuselage.
I do.
And why can’t the jets be sent to the holding point furthest away from the crowd to do their running up?
Tom, it was an april fools joke.
And a good one at that.
I think John Bradshaws is still at Kemble and airworthy but has not been dispalyed for sometime. It was up for sale but i’ve never heard of it being sold.
Unfortunately there are a couple of crappy RAF schemed ones in there. I skip those pages, there are toooooo many lovely highly polished ones.
Still think it would have looked great polished and with a black and white checkered nose and stars and bars.
Originally Duxford was called Imperial War Museum Aircraft Storage. IWM occupied the site to store there aircraft collection with everything else going to Lambeth. They should have kept this policy and kept the tanks out. They should also get rid of the boats and the sub. These all should be at Lambeth or even better sent up to thr new IWM.
They could then move the Cold War jets out of hanger 4 into the area occupied by the boats in hanger 3 and then add the history of the USAAF at Duxford into that side of hanger 4.
Most grateful.
If you can think of anyone else i may have missed that i should add then please let me know.
A nice aeroplane only to be spoiled by camauflage. Maybe Stephen could get it polished and put P-51 markings on it.
Seriously that will be a great addition to the U.K airshow scene.
Don’t. My bosses would not allow me the time off to come down if it’s the Tangmere do you are referring to.
Al Pollock was at the Kemble airshow and i not knowingly stood next to him.
I have 2 prints and a book that i am trying to get signed by as many Hunter Test and Display pilots as possible.
How can i contact the ETPS Association?
Last i heard they were hoping to have it ready in time for legends
I think it is still a damn good idea to get rid of those lousy no good no business being at Duxford tanks.
Just think of the aircraft that could be placed in there. I never have or ever will step foot in such a wasted area but from the outside it looks as though you could fit all the U.S aircraft up to the A-10 or B-25 in there plus all the pictures and other side displays.
Better still pull the place down and build a hanger there, then turning that whole end into a dedication to the yanks. I think there is a fighter pen in that area, just imagine full scale replica P-47 and P-51 pesplendent in 78 FG markings in there with all the ground and flight crew waiting to escort the bombers joining up over head. There are a few planes not put back in the AAM after the refurb and there are bound to be a few more turn up.
Now the Duck has been donated to the RAF museum (The worst possible place for it in my eyes) who knows what might be donated to the AAM in the future, P-38, B-26, A-36, F-14 i could go on.
Lets start a GET RID OF THE TANKS campaign.
Proper aeroplanes have Avon engines and were designed by Hawker. Best known as THE HUNTER.
I’ll be there around noon
