With regards to Marks crash, has the investigation finished yet?
His name is Dave lees. His past jobs include Spitfire 14 G-SPIT and the Mk16 that was G-CDAN before going to New Zealand.
I think it would be great to have another one at Dx. DAS could return their one to complete testing status and have the other displayed next to it showing what the passenger one was like.
Just imagine how good it would be to watch them try and land it.
I don’t think BA would be able to operate it as adisplay aircraft as the Company Against Aviation will probably say ‘If you think we’ll let you display that then we might as well let the Lightning fly’.
I joined friends of TFC when it 1st started and left when they sold MOOSE. The log was great back then, though i haven’t seen it lately to see if it’s got better. I thought the convention they held was o.k but could have had more input from the pilots. I don’t know if they still have them or if the pilots are more in attendance now but that was my experiance back then.
I joined OFMC’s Tiger Squadron when they bought MOOSE and ruined the colour scheme and won a ride in the back of her at the 1st convention i went to. Tiger Squadron is as far as i’m concerned a better establishment, but it goes down to which interests you most. Also with the Tigers we raise funds for the charity set up in Mark Hanna’s name.
Last i heard was that TFC had the centaurus from EEMV but it was too badly damaged to get anything useful from. I was also told that the support behind the pilot in the Sea Fury was designed especially to protect the pilot when tipping over. I would have also expected more damage to occur from going over on a hard surface than wet grass, as the softer surface would have soaked up some of the impact.
Spot on Yak 11. If G-EEMV had a stock cockpit area Paul would more than likely have survived. I think Elmer was restoring the Bearcat back to stock cockpit but is retaining the gorgeous Gulfhawk 4 colours.
The Tempest is going to be hung from the ceiling in the new building with a target in tow.
Don’t most of the TFC aircraft display at on of the major seafront shows?
If you are referring to the late Paul Morgans then the CAA banned him from using it. I was due to go for a ride in it when the CAA stepped in a week before i was due to go up. He got away with it for a couple of months though.
The RAF museums policy is to cover the whole of the RAF. Their Tempest is wearing it’s actual markings that it wore when in service. So you now have a) an aircraft portrayed in it’s original markings and b) an aircraft covering the target tug area of the RAF.
Personally i think it looks great as i’m one of those who hates the normal boring camouflage colour schemes.
B*****KS
Last i heard was that the engine was the last major thing to do. All the plumbing and wiring was complete and it just needed a few things finishing off. I think Dave Lees is doing the job on his todd as i never see anyone giving him a hand. I would guess it’s got a year to go at least.
The Sea Hawk was last i heard due to be ready in time for the Classic Jets Airshow at Kemble. The Sea Fury should be ready by the summer.
Mark Linney is going to get his hands on the F-86 again just as soon as Cliff stops hogging it.
Rolf and Rod are down as pilots of both aircraft. The same goes for them as for Mark, when Cliff is not hogging it. It’s apparently quite difficult for him to prize his fingers from around the stick.
La-9 is due to arrive on sunday at the docks. So it should reach Dx by the end of next week. Unless the container ship sinks in the channel.
Bad news about the P-40, seeing that it’s the best restored and most reliable aircraft in OFMC. All because of paperwork discrepancies. Why can’t the CAA just say ‘ Give it here and we’ll have a look over it and if it’s O.K we’ll sort the paperwork out’. I suppose that’s just too easy.
