MiG-23?

About 5 years from first flight to first flight of the true production version (MiG-23M). For such an aircraft quite a miserable performance, the USA got the much more complex F-111 faster into combat.
Better take Suchoi 27 and MiG-29 as yardstick, compare that to F-15 and F-16, and then see what happened in the generation after 15/16. Gives you an impression how complexity grew.

We could be unfair and take Russian programs of the 1990ies as yardstick, but that wouldn’t be an entirely valid comparison.

Yesterday, at Farnborough, Pogosyan stated he expected a production run of 1,000 units up until 2055!

So 1000 units over 40 years, that is 25 a year.
Pretty low rate.

That’d be another thing I forgot to explain, sorry. Disruptive behavior is classified as incessant trolling or flaming that doesn’t have to fall into one of the other categories. So, we can call “Disruptive Behavior” the “Jon James Extension” to the forum rules. Fair enough, most people getting banned really ask for it and annoy the rest of the people.

Maybe we can introduce some democracy and make a monthly “ban a man” contest, where we shortlist 10 less famous members and the winner of most votes gets banned for a month.

2013 is ridiculous, 2015 to 2017 is more realistic, with 2020 being the safe date for true squadron operational capability.

Please name Russian/Soviet aircraft that achieved IOC 4 years after first flight!

I thought Germany was really pushing for more integration of technology in the typhoon? seems like Rafale is also experiencing some uninterest from Sarkozy gov’t.

Germany has traditionally problems of developing something useful in aerial warfare, not due to lack of capability, but due to strange specs and lack of funding. If the Eurofighter program relies on the German Luftwaffe to inject ideas and new capabilities, then the Eurofighter is doomed.

Again, I don’t believe the Su-35 is some kind of wonderweapon but it is a very capable platform that should not be underestimated. In a defensive role against non-stealthy strike aircraft it will be capable of mission-killing the attacking force in painful numbers.

I guess no knowledgeable member will dispute that. However, the question raised is if can do that better than any of the “Eurocanards”. My humble opinion: no, it can’t.

The avionic equipment is a highly volatile business. When even the USAF is often unable to stuff its aircraft with newest marvels and make them work probably, I doubt Suchoi can do it easily. The experience within the RuAF and most operators of Russian equipment with newest technology is at best limited. At best it gonna take a few years to get operational. The “Eurocanards” will not stand still in that time.

I think any avionic equipment can theoretically built into the Eurofighter, just given the funds are available.

I mean producing the same old airline on current prices.Airlines could afford $70m 737 because of access to low interest credit now Tu-204SM with less than half the price will be more affordable and logical to buy.

That’s why we see orders coming in by the hundreds to Tupolev from airlines all over the world.

I have shown Boeing 737-200 is a lot cheaper than Boeing 737-800.

When taking into account the devaluation of the USD I think the B737 today is not much more expensive than it was in the late 1960ies.

Just look at the IOWA Class Battlecruisers……………While powerful platforms the USN just couldn’t afford to man and operate such large ships.

The cost benefit ratio was probably not the best. And armored 16″ cannons don’t rule the oceans any more. I think the whole idea of bringing them back into service was a very Reagonesque idea. Especially when you have enough aircraft carriers and aircraft that can make hell out of every coastline by clusterbombing it.
