They both wore the same colours at the same time, Dan – 44-73979 as a static exhibit and A68-192 as a flyer.
Thanks Andy.
According to my book it was built in 1947, from plans dating ten years earlier, by l’Amicale de l’aviation légère de Lyon. To complicate the engine choice further, this had a 45ch Salmson, but there was a second example powered by Volkswagen !
Back to the water..
is it italian?
The P-51D was former RCAF 9246 (built as 44-73979). A very short flying career in Canada, SOC 1951 after an accident, then instructional duties and a gate guard in Quebec. Presented to IWM in 1968 and stored in Barking before a move to Duxford in 1972. Rebuilt as BBD by 1973, moved to Lambeth 1989 after another restoration. Certainly one of the first four arrivals at Duxford over 40 years ago.
Sorry i am a bit confused so it was BBD in 73 but then then the Australian built CA-18 Mustang A68-192 became BBD until it crashed in 2011 and now this one is re assuming the BBD identity again?
Cheers, Dan
Hi Guys,
What is the true identity of “BBD”
Cheers
Hi DH
Do you have a website or FB page for you collection?
Cheers Dan
That’s fantastic DH, it sounds like she will be in esteamed company. I like all the RNZAF schemes. check out the ADF serials website as they have some good shots there. The RAF colours aren’t bad either.
Stay in touch
Cheers, Dan
You mean no one thought to preserve the prototype Drover? That’s not on.
Reply to a pretty old post but the prototype Drover VH-DHA was lost at sea

Hi People,
We have been getting questions from people seeking parts and services for their Dove’s from around the world. To help out I would like to add a page to our website listing businesses and people whom offer parts and service for Dove owners. If you know of a business or person, can you please email us at dh.104preservation@gmail.com with their name and contact details.
Thank you in advance,
Daniel Sherburn

Good on you, Dan. Nice job with the website. When I lived in WA Lyn Forster at Brooklands (near York) had a Devon sitting next to the hangar for about a year (2003 or thereabouts). No further details (why does VH-DVE ring a bell?) so no help at all, sorry, but I think Geoff Rundall owned her? Never met him but Lyn had heaps of hair-raising stories about him. That’s my only relationship with a Dove/Devon but I’ve been smitten ever since. Got some 6×4 prints somewhere. They’ll at least confirm a rough date.
Lyn now lives in Mt Eliza, IIRC.
Hi Andy,
VH-DVE is Ex RN XJ319 it has been in oz since 1993. unfortunatly in the mid 2000’s it was extensively damaged by some brainless vandels. she now in the care of the Australian Aviation Museum in Bankstown NSW. still looking a bit sad
Cheers, Dan
