Pakistan, China to develop cooperation in space technology

    (Updated at 2115 PST)

BEIJING: Pakistan and China will soon work out a plan to enhance cooperation in the field of space technology for peaceful purposes.

An agreement to this effect was reached during the recent highest-level talks held here between President Pervez Musharraf and the Chinese leadership.

The two sides agreed to develop close cooperation between their respective institutions in the earth, marine and space sciences and promote the application of relevant technologies in industry and agriculture.

In a joint statement issued at the end of President Musharraf’s recent visit to China, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to promote partnership in the hi-tech sector.

They also agreed to cooperate in seismology, geology and Antarctic sciences. Official sources in Beijing told APP that the bilateral cooperation in the field of space technology could span a broad spectrum of topics of mutual priority.

The areas of cooperation may include climate science, clean energy technologies, clean water technologies, cyber-security, basic space, atmospheric and earth sciences and marine sciences.

The two countries also agreed to establish close interaction at regional level as well to share their experience, expertise and available resources, developing space technology.

In this connection, Pakistan, China and five other regional countries have already launched Asia Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO).

This regional arrangement was set up to promote capabilities of the member countries in several areas of space technology applications. The member countries signed a Convention, pledging to cooperate for peaceful use of outer-space for mutual benefits.

According to the sources, Pakistan and China played a pioneering role in establishing the organization, first of its kind to expand cooperation in space activities in the Asia-Pacific region. This is aimed at enabling the member countries to share their available resources in the use of satellite remote sensing data in environmental protection, natural resources exploitation as well as disaster monitoring and prevention, he added

Agree with you to some extent. But I think it should be seen in the broader context instead of been India centric. As for the F-16 deal, here is simple mathematics, they want to sale this aircraft and we desperately want to buy it. So the situation is more likely that u scratches my back and I scratch urs. Plus for the nuclear deal one thing should also be kept in mind that internationally we are not in a good profile and when ever we demand for nuclear cooperation issue of A.Q.Khan will block over way. So instead of pointing towards others we should also realize that we are equally responsible for this lake of international intimacy. Our recent governments irresponsibly trusted the rogue regimes such as Iran and Libya and put us in a really bad fix.
I conclude my discussion by the point I wanted to make is that always complaining and blaming is a loser’s job, no need to over react to any such development because We are a complete ,a proud and a confident nation, we can deal with such situations.we r not gonna finished anyway.

Yes…He also mentioned that he had asked G.W.Bush for 1000MW nuclear power plant. Anyway in his news conference while referring to the joint statement he said that Pakistan is allowed to buy weapons with TOT facility, it is up to Pakistan now whether to shop from them or not. We can have most modern F-16s but it is us who have to decide we need them or not and if need them then how much of them we can buy he said.
He stated that we also have other option to consider and we will go for the most cost effective one. Without naming India he said “If they want to spend that much money on their defense they should we have no intentions to follow but we will not give-up the minimum deterrence level and where ever we traced our weakness we will remove it.”

Well what would you have to say for the latest development in Bush latest visit to South East Asia. He has offered nuclear co operation aswell as latest F-16 and F-18 aricrafts along with ToT to India. So here goes your F-16 package??/ any comments?

Well if u asks me I am a bit disappointed by the US president’s visit. May be I was over expecting out of it. Anyway the F-16s deal is still on and in April or later this year PAF will officially request for these aircrafts. The delivery of F-16s will be started by the end of this year from used 2nd hand F-16s and then later on modern f-16s would be delivered to Pakistan. There are contradictory reports that Pakistan may have increased or decreased the number of F-16s to be inducted. But it is sure now that PAF is getting Fighting falcons.

well this may not be my place and i am not here for any offensive conversation but just conversation. In my view it seems that india may not be interested in US fighter jets unless it is F-22 or JSF, as France, Europeon coutries and even Russia have better options to offer than US so far…the only plus point US would be offering is AESA radars… it is really something. In my guess india would go for russuian Sukois or French Rafales or both as they are easy to induct and IAF have vast experience of operating platforms from both these countries

    Exclusive NEWS Update
Pakistan Air force has made it final to go ahead for 75+ modern F-16s and president bush would be informed with the final details in his visit to Pakistan. This deal was delayed by the president of Pakistan after devastating earthquake in Kashmir and North West Frontier Province (NWFP). As president Bush would be visiting Pakistan in less than 36 hours from now, it is decided to inform the American administration about the details of the decision been made. It is more likely that Pakistan may increase the number of F-16s and may ask for modern gunship helicopters

Well not as good as MIG-29s , Grippens and Sukoi -30 but not that too bad also. Pakistan Airforce also have customised version of F-7MG and they are proved to be excellent plaforms compare to prior versions…but new avionics pack made them heavy and less agile than F-7M plus it only have one canon with 60 rounds in it…all in all a decent aircraft
