RE: Pic Of The Day-Air India B747!
Forgive my ignorance – I know the paint work around the window is there for religious reasons but is there any reason why it isn’t on the upper deck windows?
Great pic by the way.;-)
RE: Well its begun
I expect there will be a number of other route rationalisations to follow.
Will be interesting to see whether EasyJet bump up the fares for these routes in due course.
RE: Bad Flight?
1.Beginning of February this year, BA 747-400 landing at Heathrow after a 13 hour flight from Tokyo Narita.
It just happened to be the day Britain experienced some of its windiest weather in years. One minute we were floating along in the sun above the cloud base, as soon as we descended through the clouds it went as dark as hell and we were were thrown around all over the place. Overhead bins opened up and numerous sick bags were used.
We landed on the 3rd runway which I think is only used in exceptional weather(?).
The pilot as you would expect did a great job but me and my partner felt sick for a good two hours afterwards.
2. Taxying at Bangkok AF A340-300 in September 99 steady rain turned into a torrential downpour. We then turned on to the runway and to this day I can’t belive we took off in that weather. It took an age to rotate and the spray and sound of the surface water was something else.
When we eventually arrived back at Manchester we saw on the news a Qantas jumbo had landed 10 minutes after our take off and had ploughed off the end of the runway on to the golf course! This was apparently down to a combination of the bad weather and incorrect brake speed selection. Felt like we’d had a lucky escape.

RE: PIC OF THE DAY NO ROOM FOR ERROR HERE!!!
Nice one Monster 500, lovely picture…..the 747 at its best.:)
RE: hehe Poor Old My Travel!
I appreciate the play on words but still think the brand name “My Travel Lite” sounds like a low fat yoghurt/packet of crisps etc!}>
RE: What was your first flight?
Bit vague I’m afraid, would be either a Dan Air or Brittania 737 around 1979.
Flew with one or the other for the next 5 or 6 years around Europe, mainly from Manchester.
RE: Pic Of The Day-Emirates!
lovely picture, nice one Kabir.
Is that the rear-view camera I can see on the back end of the fuselage?
They could probably also do with one on the A340-600.;)
RE: Malaysia Airlines
My memory isn’t what it used to be but I recall MH changed from 773 to 744 last year on the Manchester route due to pax growth. Manchester flights were halted along with various others in 11th September aftermath but restarted 1st April this year.
Thanks for the comments, I’ll post a review when I get back.
RE: Pic Of the Day-Qantas Dream Themes!
great pictures, nice to see a 747-300 too! 😀
RE: TAX
What costs make up the “tax” charged by airlines?
I would have thought it should comprise solely any government taxes and landing fees?
UK government tax as far as I know is fairly clear – £10 on a domestic or £20 for an overseas flight.
RE: The 767 Quiz – Take 2!!
Pretty tough ones T5!
I can only guess at 2 of them;
2. True
5(f). Delta
RE: Your fav place in the world?
Snowman, you’ve pretty much nailed it on the head there with your comments on the Japanese culture.
I was able to visit earlier this year – stayed in Tokyo (Akasaka & Ueno), Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Kyoto and Narita.
It was a wonderful place and I would love to return there again one day.
As you say, the people are so courteous and polite, everything so well organised and punctual, especially the bullet trains which are fantastic.
Other favourite places are Hong Kong for the hustle and bustle and Phuket for the sheer escapism – when I was there scuba-diving it felt as far removed as I could get from being part of the rat race.

RE: Check your flight ticket
and it was their honeymoon too!
Reminds me of a similar recent story in which another British couple booked a trip to the Brazillian coastal resort of Salvador and ended up in El Salvador having not checked the tickets!
