    RE: BA’s long haul 767’s

Some interesting posts. When I was flicking through the holiday brochures earlier in the year they were saying as part of the World Traveller scheme BA had seat back tv’s on all their 777’s and were due to complete installation on all 747-400’s shortly. Didn’t mention 767’s so maybe this was never intended?
2-3-2 layout sounds nice. I flew Manchester – Phuket return via Abu Dhabi on Britannia in 2000. They use 2-4-2 which is absolutely awful for a flight involving two 7 hour sectors. Plus it was a freezing cold and drafty flight!!

Could be a flight out of Humberside? Only joking!}>

Always looks so graceful the A330/340, I think its the way the rear landing gear droops down at that angle.

looks terrific, and those Virgin colours are just as easy on the eye as the Airbus House colours.
Can’t wait to see one close up.

Lets also not forget the A340 has the additional rear set of centre landing wheels!

RE: SriLankan to Colombo from LHR

I flew Sri Lankan last year from Bangkok to Hong Kong return on their A330’s.
They were very impressive, reasonable economy space, seat-back screens in all seats, good food and friendly service.
If you dress smartly and they over-book economy (which I gather happens a lot with this airline in particular) you may get a free biz class upgrade like I did on the return leg!!
In terms of good/bad seating, it will be a 2-4-2 layout and you should have a pretty smooth ride whereever you sit on the A340, although some might say wing seats are the best for minimising turbulence.

RE: Ministers plan sixth terminal for Heathrow

Sounds optimistic, but given the length of time taken to get a decision on Terminal 5 I don’t expect to see these proposals happen in my lifetime (and I’m only 29!).
Would also have thought a Compulsory Purchase Order on the homes for the additional runway would be too sensitive for this or any other successive government to push through.
Why not look to extend services at other airports given we are constantly told Heathrow operates at maximum capacity? Manchester for example now has the 2nd runway (albeit subject to restricted hours of operation) which is forecast to cater for organic growth up to 2020.
I appreciate many people in the South-east would question a trip to Manchester to catch a flight but surely a good degree of hub/transit passengers that pass through Heathrow could be catered for?

    RE: Model Aircraft

    Preston,

yep a local Leeds lad, recently moved to Cleckheaton from Wetherby which makes those early morning jaunts to MAN a bit easier.
    Are you local to Leeds?
Any other list members from West Yorkshire/Yorkshire? (all you Teesiders don’t count!)
Sorry if this is digressing/should go on the general topic list.

    RE: Model Aircraft

I started about 18 months ago, have bought most from the Aviation Viewing Park shop at MAN and Air Supply at Yeadon.
I initially tried to buy those planes I had travelled on but found it isn’t easy to get hold of a Sri Lankan A330-200 and Qantas 747-300 amongst others!!
The ones I have that I have been on include BA 747-400 Hong Kong tail colours (push fit) and Thai A330-300 (Dragon Wings).
Various others I have bought purely because I love the model/paint scheme. These include Thai 747-400 Long-boat special scheme and my all time favourite Emirates 777-300.

would love to see that approach from the flightdeck, superb.
Have flown in to Phuket a couple of times which has a similar approach but nowhere near as low.

    RE: More famous Pilots

thanks a lot Bhoy/Benair/Ja. Very interesting.
Certainly wouldn’t mind Niki Lauda’s job, must be nice to hop on a 777 and take the controls whenever you’re feeling bored!!
