It’s been assembled for over three months, so why the sudden fuss, as I thought this place was open all the time? Here are the photos taken then:

Presume you have seen this, which may answer lots of questions:
Another four from me:
G-ASAA at Sywell July 1976
G-AXGR at Badminton 24 April 1988
G-BCFY at Popham 9 Sept 1979 (I watched this being built at RAF Lyneham!)
G-AXKH at Old Warden 22 May 1977
There, I’ll bet you didn’t expect to see such a response on this thread!
You probably thought it would be a minor posting :p
G-ASML
Okay, here is my oldest shot of G-ASML taken nearly 30 years ago at Sywell PFA Rally in July 1976 just to show it was once black and white! 🙂
I’ll be there! We are planning to have the Dove, Prentice, Pembroke, Twin Pin, Dak, Anson and Rapide in attendance so feel free to pop over, have a nose around and say hello!
Tom.
Have you painted a cheatline on Rapide ‘IDL yet, or is it still plain white & silver? Would look nice in Atlantique’s current black-belly scheme.
Vintage stuff is not really my bag – but I live about 5 miles from Hullavington and used to work there – so I will visit.
Is there such a thing as a participants list, or can someone tell me what to expect ??
Or an I being naive ??
Ken
Hmm, I’ve known you to shoot quite a number of ‘vintage planes’. If it’s pre 1960 and British, there’s a good chance representative examples will be there, weather permitting! Not sure exactly what constitutes ‘vintage’, but that’s a ‘ball park’ date! No lists, you pays your money and takes your chances as to what turns up! I shall be there revelling in nostalgia :p
I’d take ‘a fence’ at that? 😀
If anyone wonders what TF-NPK looks like, here it is in an ‘Air Atlantiquish’ type scheme! How nice it would be to see it in full Icelandair livery?
It seems I’m not alone in my thoughts, but perhaps am more outspoken than some.
One thing bothers me is the inconsistency in CAA rules. Why do they allocate British Civil Registrations and permits to types such as the Sea Vixen and Vulcan, yet will not allocate them to a Lightning, Buccaneer or Shackleton?
I was there and witnessed this ,which was on 10th August 1986. The Vampire didn’t actually get airborne like this, as I recall the canopy blew off as it gathered speed on the runway and thern came to a halt, as it was a trifle drafty!
It’s Dragon Rapide G-ACZE, which makes the shot post 1984 as it was registered in 1/85. In my experience these machines didn’t often travel too far from home (Chalmington Manor in Dorset) and the hangars look typical RAF so my guess is Abingdon??
I would quite agree with that and also thought it looked like Abingdon. This Rapide actually lived at Henstridge, as it couldn’t get into Chalmington Manor’s strip, and was often seen at Woburn, Hatfield,Old Warden and other historic DH-related places. I believe it is currently CofA expired at Henstridge, after the collection was split up.
I probably remember for the first 10 years then it gets hazy 😀
phil.
You mean from birth to the age of 10??? 😉
Bump.
Nobody know were the last pic was taken then? 😮
Phil.
Afraid not..you mean you go places and take photos and can’t remember where you took them?? This is Brian Woodford’s Dragon Rapide G-ACZE, but the background appears to be a RAF Station somewhere?
Why does every single thread about the Vulcan degenerate into this bloody tedious bickering?
Cos that’s what it’s all about – the ‘optimists’ v. the ‘pessimists’. You can guarantee whoever makes a postitive or negative posting, it will always cause a response. I’ve just proved it! :diablo:
It Fairford alright, thats a Portugese Puma in the background. That should help date it.
Checked my archives and date is 22 July 1989. Shot the Puma, but ignored the Wessex, as it was common as the time – a foolish error!
