    PIA new colours

Nasir, they are all pretty damned good! Have you seen their new livery on a Boeing 777 on another thread? It’s just awful and oh sooooo 🙁 boring!! Please, please, submit your schemes to PIA Public Relations and get them to change this??

Yes agree! Did Nasir actually submit his designs to PIA, or are they just for fun?

    Beverley XB259

For anyone who would like to see a colour photo of XB259 taken in 1971, when in service with RAE Farnborough, check out the excellent book “Testing Colours” by Adrian Balch, published by Airlife Publishing. Although out-of-print, there are still copies around and it can be ordered from Amazon. There are also colour photos of XB261 of A&AEE Boscombe Down in it.

You’re absolutely right – this IS XL149’s cockpit!

 Definately agree with Gaz West, looks this a Starfighter more than anything else, but what’s that panel for? Is that for piling the coals on?

😉 Yes the Airfix kit was reissued a few years ago and there are still several around. Kits were also issued by Frog, Revell and Lincoln, but these are extremely rare now!
Does anyone have a COLOUR photograph of the Rotodyne at Farnborough during its final public appearance in 1961, when it had ‘WESTLAND ROTODYNE’ titles and RAF roundels? Would like to build my kit in these markings and with central tail fin.

‘Albatross’, did I hear my name mentioned? Ah, the call of the floatplanes! I remember seeing this Goose at Duxford in July 98 and last saw it at the Southhampton “Seawings 2000” show.
Lovely machine – we don’t see enough flying boats here!

I am lucky enough (and old enough!) to say I have seen it fly at Farnborough Air Show in 1959 and 1960. Film of this is on the DD Video, “Farnborough, The Glory, Glory Years – ’50s & ’60s available from Flypast Mag

The first one probably would have to have the titles changed, as they are known as Pakistan INTERNATIONAL Airlines, not just Pakistan Airlines

    Museums in Beijing

    Steve,

There are TWO museums there! The first is the Beijing Aeronautical Institute and the second is the China Aviation Museum at Changping, both within the Beijing district. At Shanghai there is the Shanghai Aviation Enthusiasts Centre.
Full addresses and listings of all aircraft are in Bob Ogden’s book,”Aircraft Museums & Collections of the World” Vol.1- ASIA, which is available from the Aviation Hobby Shop at West Drayton.

    Cheers,

    Albert(alias Adrian B)

That was another matter! The C-130 was recovered and returned to operational status, as it was still required for service and nothing to do with preservation. Also, don’t think that was as hard to get out as the P-38 buried for 50 years!

“Getting better all the time Walt. Right, best get the money spent then before the lawyers take it all. What sort of airplane is it?”

    “A Whitley”

“Excuse me? Is that a kinda P51?”

    “Naw! It’s a limey bomber”

“Are you sure we couldn’t find a P51? They are the coolest airplane in the history of the universe”

“Naw, it’s a Whitley. They didn’t do too badly until the war started in 1941, then they got a bit outdated”

“Couldn’t we find a B17? That’s the coolest bomber airplane in the history of the universe”

    “Sorry Hiram, a Whitley’s what I’ve located”

“And this is going to cost us five million apiece?”

    “Yup”

“Er… Let me get back to you on that one Walt”

    Moggy

That was absolutely priceless – many thanks for the tears of laughter!!

    Dutch Connie

This is wonderful news. Do you have a projected post-restotation flight date yet, or any plans to bring it to the UK…hopefully to Fairford in July??
