It’s all to do with politics and not refusing gifts! The USAF donated two F-111s, one to IWM at Duxford and one to the RAF Museum. What should they do, stick it outside and ignore it and run the risk of upsetting our colonial cousins, or put them both inside an surround them with TLC? Same goes for the EH101 Heli-liner. Westland couldn’t sell it on the civilian marked so donated it to the RAF Museum. Now, quite rightly it belongs at Cosford with all the other prototypes, or perhaps even more appropriately at Weston-Super-Mare with IHM?
Sorry, Albert, there was so much to see at Oshkosh (on my first ever visit) that I was completely overwhelmed and didn’t get any further details!
Okay found it through a bit of Googling! It was G-ARTV. All you need to know about the EP.9 is here:
Jon,
That is what I call a LIST!! 😮 I was tempted to thank you by using the ‘Quote’ button, but then thought I would double the length of this thread in one stroke, so have just added this bit! Compiling that must have taken some serious research and I see you have even included Pembrokes.
Well done! 😉
Prospector N747JC at Oshkosh in 2003.
That’s one of the very few airworthy EP.9s. Do you know what the previous UK reg was?
Well the date on the slide says June 1969 so I’m sure that’s correct but have to admit to a guess at location. So perhap it’s El Adem??? Any guess? I suppose it could even be Luqu but looks a bit too derserty!
Martin – El Adem it is and date was 27 May 1969. Think you may have this from the same source as me?
Is it going to remain ‘grey’ for weather-protection purposes, although Gannets were never grey. This one should be silver with yellow training bands, or could possibly have been in the standard Gannet scheme of extra dark sea grey top and Sky Type S (duck egg green) undersides?
I was in the RAF at Brize Norton in 1978 and always thought this was G-ALRX which was moved up from Boscombe Down to the movements school after XX367 was retired. However here is a photo of the nose of G-ALRX now with the Bristol Aero Collection at Kemble, which doesn’t relate to the nose shape in the photo of the fuselage at Brize.
There is a Piston Provost based in NZ, painted up in SOAF colours.
Looks the business 🙂
Mark,
This was F/Lt.Mike Crymble’s machine, WW397, that was active on the UK air show circuit throughout the ’80s and kept at RAF Lyneham, until there was no longer room for it and it was sold to NZ.
Meteor
Thanks for posting that pic Neil. Last time I saw the Meteor it was in 64 Squadron markings. Anyone know which squadron this is? Great to see it repainted! If it’s now back in the hangar, there’s a chance the Valiant might be uncluttered?
Valiant update
Anyone know if they have fitted the tanks to the Valiant yet and where it is parked now? Would love to come and take some shots, but won’t make the long trip if it’s nowhere to be seen!
Lovely! Thanks very much for posting those. It’s obvious they’re pretty tightly packed in. Let’s hope they can hang a few more from the roof to make more room?
albert,
since you cannot use those files in x-plane, they are entirely pointless.
You can fly a model of the Fairey Rotodyne if you own MS FlightSim v5.0 or later, thanks to Ian Standfast. Two versions are available with slightly different flight characteristics. Try them both and use the one that is best suited to your flying style. A converter is necessary to convert these files to Flight Sim 95 or Flight Sim 98. A custom panel will be available shortly.
I’d love to get hold of a 3 view of a Rotodyne to put it into the x-plane sim!
…what you mean like this one
Didn’t Ronnie Barker mention ‘Richard III’ in one of his inuendos? 😀
C’mon Albert, i
I is bad enough being labeled as a ‘Plane Spotter’ (which I am NOT BTW) without being called an ‘Airport Vehicles Spotter’…… 😮
Ooops….. it was a momentary lapse – honest!
Ken
PS – What ‘well-known diecast model company’ would that be then?? :p
PPS – Long time no see – you still go to Smith’s ??
PPPs – See you at Milton Keynes ???
Oh no, I knew that would happen and open the floodgates for all the loonies…and you Ken! Just goes to show that these days when you go shooting aircraft, you can’t resist taking shots of other ‘aviation related’ stuff…..just in case! At a guess, I would say this is a Russian snow blower?
(PS Yes, see you at MK)
