Roscoria, it was a long time again, i was only a kid with an early enthusiasm for aviation, from what i can remember the Voodoo was one of the front line fighters at the time in the USAF livery, i remember it being a very very noisy aircraft with a noticable high pitched scream which seemed to go right through you ! That was certainly the era of big shows and large foreign participation, I can remember seeing USAF Neptunes and Norwegian Albatrosses perform and ‘Le Patrouille De France’ in their Fouga Magisters and with Plymouth’s coastal location, the familiar drone of St Mawgan based Shackleton’s were always music to my ears. Nostalgia eh……

    I remember my first airshow:

1959 at Plymouth, Roborough… the Black Arrows with their 16 ( I think) hunters, as a young lad I was dumb founded at this sight, then highlights would include:

Early to mid sixties Plymouth, Roborough : RAF flypasts of Victors and Vulcans in brilliant white livery.

Mid sixties Plymouth, Roborough: Ear splitting displays by lightnings and Phantoms, USAF F101 Voodoos.

1979: First Greenham Common – huge number of display teams, 14 i think including the ‘Starfighters’ a five ship F104 team formed by the Canadian forces based in Germany.

1987: Mildenhall and my first sight of the SR-71 Blackbird in flight.

1992: Air Tournament, Boscombe Down: Superb tribute to the 8th Air Force including the P-38 Lightning and B-24 Liberator.

1993 on: Duxford – too many shows to recall but the B of B 2000 show probably takes some beating.

Fairford – again too many to remember but probably the Victory airshow of 1995 was a definite highlight.

Steve, I have nothing but respect for My Grey, the collection truly is awesome, over the last 15 years of coming to Duxford I’ve seen comings and goings of various aircraft, perhaps being a fan of the ‘heavies’ makes the loss of the B-25 and Tigercat more of a bitter pill to swallow on a personal note but I guess as has been mentioned alsewhere on this thread things don’t stay the same for ever, things move on with rule changes which I hadn’t taken into consideration, further aircraft will no doubt be brought into the collection. Anyone with any ideas as to what aircraft will become the flagship of the TFC fleet/ Finally I will always remember the Tigercat’s debut at FL’97 when it flew in formation with 2 Bearcats and then performed a truly stunning solo display…….

Tks Ollie thats sad news indeed, with the B-25 already gone last year and P47 ‘no guts, no glory on it’s way also to the U.S, TFC’s American contribution is starting to look a bit thin. Okay we have Little Demon to replace no guts, no glory but isn’t it a far cry from 10 years ago when we had the likes of the P-38, P-63, B-25, Bearcat x 2, sadly of course two of them were lost in tragic accidents but that aside is Duxford slowly going to loose all of it’s American airworthy aircarft ?
