Ex Brat
My favorite Cat 3 jobs were on XZ101 and XZ109 at Colt in 1990-91. Agreed, some of the repair schemes could be in the Vol 6 and as a mature airframe, however some will not. Not actually seeing the damage, one cannot say the scope of the repairs. I could do the surveyor job and did most of the work for the last Jaguar Cat 3 in liaison with the RSS Surveyor. It was a rush job to get the frame out of Colt and of course I knew the ways of RSS and the airframe.
Dump it up at Newcastle and let Bluebird Mike and Bill do their magic.. They definitely have the fabrication skills and the knowledge to to repair the damage.. Nah, finish K7 first please.
I could do that now on my types on my ticket! No QA checks for cut lines, prefits, assembly or finals then?
Because the Aircraft Salvage and Transportation Flight boys did what it said on the tin.. Crash and Smash. The Aircraft Repair Flight personnel (whom had to do a primary structure repair course before they were allowed to carry out Category 3 level repairs) at Abo were the RAF Sheeties. The 2 ARFs and ASTF were combined into the Repair and Salvage Squadron (RSS). I was on 2 ARF from 89 to 92. You would say you were on RSS and people would say “you on Crash and Smash?” Only time I ever heard of any guys from the ARFs doing crash and smash duties was at Kegworth with the British Midland 737, seeing all the ASTF guys were still up Lockebie. The structural work on the Vixen sounds like a big Cat 3 that would be several thousand hours of work. It is not just the strip down, the repair schemes (that as there is no OEM, is likely to come under BCAR A rules and the CAA will be watching) and the fabrication and repair. I would have to look up the BCAR A regulations on repair of primary structure for PtFs with no OEM oversight. I know if it was my civvy type, it would be straight to the OEM with that damage.
Two private GR3s are runners , I haven’t heard of a private SHAR ground running in this country, of course Art has his flying in the states.
Flying a private Leaping Heap in this country? Complex airframe if it has auto stabilisation, so not a chance.
The BCWM XX741 restoration does have its own Youtube channel, but all the restoration news stories are contained on the “Sepecat Jaguar Appreciation Society group” on FB.

Complete balderdash and poppycock!! It has been brought as a military crew extraction trainer, not to burn or destroy. I would do some research before I start threads saying “It will be burned…”
Which is usually the case in these investigations, unless you can speak with the departed pilot.
We know the cause now. We know there were a number of other contributing factors, which taken in the round would not have stopped the crash from happening, unless the aircraft had been prevented from getting airborne that morning.
Yes. Pilot error, pure and simple. It has shown the shortcomings of everything else surrounding the operation of this aircraft mind and no one comes out smelling of roses. The aircraft crashed because the air frame was never within the parameters to successfully carry out the manoeuvre (regardless of malfunctioning instruments and engines) and the captain did not recognise this at any stage until the the last few seconds (when he is fighting desperately to correct his errors).
As someone who spent my career as a sytems engineer working on modern aircraft flight control systems, Tornado and Typhoon in particular, as well as one-offs including FBW Jaguar and EAP, unfortunately I simply can’t see any way they could be operated in a preservation environment. The transition from mechanical systems to control systems requiring complex safety-critical electronic computing to remain in the air is just too fundamental IMHO.

Agree.
As for blocking off the F4 tank, doesn’t the vent run from it?

F4 in the scheme of venting (yellow). Drawing says no.

We got the doors off XX741 on Sunday, so the bays can be properly cleaned, any defects sorted and we can play with the fuel system i n time to ensure it is leak free and running clean
Hi all.
I’m looking for a high energy igniter(‘crackers’), HT box and cable as usually fitted to British jet a/c.
Does anyone have some spare? we could do swaps if poss. Thanks in advance..

DC I assume?
A new video with Jet Noise!
Some time since I posted on here. Video of the years activities on You Tube. Undercarriage and NWS working correctly and most of the spine internal systems rebuilt.
