Ola Adelphi, could you provide any further details on the MAR-1 or know of any sources with further details? It’s a very interesting missile and something quite exotic compared to the usual types in service around the world.

    Hi Rookh,
I talked with people linked to the MAR-1 program and was informed that the range is similar to the ALARM missile. The Mectron is conducting final tests to schedule deliveries to the FAB and PAF.
In LAAD Defence & Security 2011 Mectron released a video of an A-1 (AMX) launching the MAR-1 with success.
I think Mectron is doing a good job with the new missiles MAR-1 and MAA-1B. The company is now part of the Odebrecht Group, one of Brazil’s biggest.

    I think its around 25km.

Sorry, it´s a wrong number… Mectron(in off) said that is much more than this.

IDK, maybe if Brazil’s ambitions get too big the SLV’s might spontaneous explode on their launch platforms…

Why do you think we are too ambitious?

    Hi Fedaykin,
We might see Rafale M/F1 aboard São Paulo. It’s probably that they’ll fly together with modernized A-4s.
Rafale can operate only in air-to-air configuration because is too heavy for the A-12. The modernized Skyhawks will be the “strike force”.

It’s a difficult question. FAB will receive the RFP (Request For Proposal) only next year. At the moment, according FAB studies the situation is: 1st Gripen NG, 2nd Super Hornet and 3rd Rafale. But there’s a long way to decision and in my opinion it will be a strategic choice and not a “better aircraft” choice. France is our new strategic partner, but our MoD doesn’t want only one partner. France will sell Scorpene SSK, FREMM, 50 EC-725 and technology for SSN. US want to be our strategic partner again because the new aggressive situation in South America (Chávez and his friends), and American Congress wants to sell us the SH with full power (APG-79, AIM-120C, JDAM…).

    We have to wait

What do you think about the FX Contest? Do you have any predictions and if so what type???

PW and GE offered to FAB some more powerful alternatives to Spey, of course without afterburner. 😀

Any engine change would be new built examples……………….Regardless, why past that stage……..Just talking “what if”.:D

The Brazilian AMX are being upgraded with SCP-01 Scipio radar, glass cockpit, data-link, NVG capable, new HOTAS, laser designators for PGMs. The upgraded AMX will have almost the same avionics of A-29 and F-5M. They will carry LITENING III and SKY SHIELD pods, Lizard LGB, Anti-ship missile (probably Exocet or Harpoon), MAR-1 (Brazilian ARM) and MAA-1A/B Piranha.

FAB studied a new engine for AMX, but it was so expensive, and our “Pocket Tornado” will fly for only more 10/12 years, when Adelphi, Centauro and Poker Squadrons would receive the FX winner (Super Hornet, Gripen or Rafale).

SAINT-GEORGES DE L’OYAPOCK (Guyana), Feb 12 (Reuters) – France is considering making military technology transfers to Brazil, notably for the Rafale fighter jet, President Nicolas Sarkozy said on Tuesday.

“I told the Brazilian president that on the issue of submarines, we were ready that one of the Scorpene submarine be made in Brazil, that regarding fighter jets and helicopters, we were ready to organise technology transfers so that helicopters and jet fighters, I am notably thinking about the Rafale, be made in Brazil,” Sarkozy told a joint news conference.

This is not THAT right. Venezuela is one of the more modern armies in Latin America. Mainstay of their tanks is the AMX-30V besides AMX-13C.90 (modernized, new 90 mm gun) and the Scorpion 90 (also modernized with 90 mm gun).

Venezuela Army is one of the more modern army in Latin America? Brazil has 128 Leopard1A1( more 240 “1A5” coming soon) and 91 M-60A3TTS and hundreds Cascavel. Chile has 202 Leopard Iv, Argentina has 260 TAM and Peru has 150 T-72. All armies better then Venezuela.
