The UK has been in the Gulf along with other nations inspecting ships cargoes since that late 1980’s. Do they not know their business? Why did the RN not stand by it’s boats? How far away was the frigate? Any competent force would stand by it’s boats and not send them out of reach in the first place. Why was the RN not prepared to use force to protect it’s personnel which it sent into what amounts to a war zone?

The RCN, RAN or the USN could train RN commanders on the prudent and proper way to conduct such operations so that UK spokespersons wouldn’t have to make excuses for not protecting and supporting it’s naval personnel who risk their lives in small boats.

As to “let us try diplomacy first” would it not be better to prevent Iran’s speed -boat navy from capturing two boats of RN personnel in the first place? Then the UK would not have to get a retired Admiral to say the capture was “outrageous” but ” rather than roaring into action and sinking everything in sight we try and step back and that, of course, is why our chaps were, in effect, able to be captured and taken away.” Have we ever heard such twaddle in our lives? If your military isn’t allowed to fight , who will?

As to the Tiffy. It will be ready next year. Woooo! I bet the Taliban are shaking in there there shoes.

Cook should have used a Typhoon in say U.K. colours because as we all now know, UK military rules of engagement preclude their military personnel using their weapons to defend themselves and would have made his sad joke more believable. 😡

Cuba and Venezuela are basically backwaters with no real influence. Castro and and Chavez are both thugs. Neither one has ever had the courage to run in an election that wasn’t fixed.

It was rather funny watching Chavez performing his clown act while President Bush was on his recent tour, trying to follow Bush around from a safe distance and attempting to stir up anti-U.S. protests that were largely ignored by all but a few.

War with Iran? Nothing to worry about when you consider that the UK, Germany, France and Russia were given the job of dealing with Iran over the issue of it’s nuclear weapons programs. Given that European diplomatic skills are far superior to those of the Americans, I am sure that all issues will be resolved soon.;)
