You maybe correct that we got lemons but even if they are based on a “civilian utility’ model as described by the air force, why would corrosion be an issue at this stage in their operational lives? Surely many civilian companies operate over salt water, just look at what CHC does.
This program was screwed up from the start. Sad. Lets hope the forces have have better luck with the the new types on order.

Well maybe his ideas will spur on others. At least the guy tries and he isn’t whining about how the pressures of life led him into drug addition.
Unlike FMK.6JOHN. he probably knows that he is Canadian living in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and therefore not responsible for the notion that “a high portion of Americans are dumb”.

Well I would be the last one to wish that you bleed to death from your nose or anywhere else.
By all means stress the positive side of things but lets not lose sight of the reality that addictions are usually self imposed. My experience and observation suggests that beating one depends on character and resolve not a handout.

Ah yes “I have worked with hundreds of adults and young children who are challenged in some way………” therefore I have a special insight which makes anything you have to say invalid. 😉

I would put the Canadian military man up against any equal force the UK, France, U.S. or anyone else you can name. Unfortunately the Canadian government has not lived up to our commitments because like other NATO governments, it determined that the U.S. would have to step in because of self interest if for no other reason. Typical left-wing/socialist attitude.
Frankly Europeans are better at getting help than suppling it to others. The U.S., Canada, Australia, NZ, India, and others had to come to your assistance a number of time in the last 100 years, not the other way around. You mention Europeans “helping out in the Balkans”. Do you have any idea how that sounds to a non European! You sat on your hands until Clinton of all people, took the action you wouldn’t take to prevent ethnic cleaning within Europe! In the 1990’s!
The facts are clear, Europe spent the last 60 years working less, relying on immigrant labour to do the dirty jobs it wouldn’t do for itself, constructing social benefits it probably will not be able to pay for in the future because the birth rate is below replacement levels almost everywhere, increasing the bureaucracy while other paid the bills for Europe’s defense. Canada is unfortunately doing much the same although we still have time to help out a bit now and again.
Good luck with the A400.

How many dead? Who knows? Perhaps one is enough but that isn’t the point in Afghanistan. The issue is why some countries are not contributing more and why others send troops if they are not allowed to fight or are not trained for combat and can only operate in secure or relatively secure areas. Those jobs are for police forces. In any event there are any number of NATO countries that have very capable combat forces.
Sauron
The U.S. has more troops in Afghanistan than all the others combined. Apart from the U.S forces the only ones that seem to be involved in combat are the Brits, Dutch and Canadians. What do the others do? Will the others like the Germans engage once the A400 is in service?
If the war in Afghanistan is worth fighting (unlike Iraq) then why are the European nations not doing more? What are the Germans doing in Afghanistan? Why are there not more European nations sending worthwhile numbers? Where are the Germans, the Italians, the French, the Spanish and all the others?

I don’t consider posting my location as unfortunate. I am proud to do so. I notice you haven’t posted yours. While I never fought a day I my life, I am as entitled as you or anyone on this forum to make observations (base or otherwise) about European nations who talk to talk but don’t walk the walk.
I am also not the slightest bit shy about poking fun at the A400 Evader because it is the perfect symbol of the Europeans approach to defense. Perhaps it is a habit gained from having others help out to do the job. Unfortunately there are many Canadians who have the same attitude which is why our forces find it so difficult to field a 2500 man force for Afghanistan.

Well said J Boyle.
I have known a number of folks with real handicaps and any claim that the average drug addict should be given the same consideration is nonsense. Falling on hard times is one thing, but then choosing to make matters worse by becoming a drug addict as well is mindless.

Having thought about it a bit more I believe Evader would be appropriate for the A400M because most of the nations that have ordered them will no doubt evade situations where they actually have to use them to support a combat situation.

What about Chimera?
As in mythological fire-breathing monster made up of the spare parts of a lion, goat and snake. Appropriate name for a military aircraft for those European nations who have ordered it but who are unlikely to actually use it in a fight. I believe South Africa has ordered it as well.
Given that during the latest round of NATO discussions there were no European nations who were willing to commit forces to Afghanistan and a recent press story that South Africa will not get involved in any peacekeeping deployments to help out in Sudan or Somalia, the name Chimera is certainly appropriate.

If as you claim you had actually “followed this story for many years” you would be aware that this piece of filth committed his killings in the Vancouver are and not Montreal which are about 3000 miles apart. Enough said.
