Until they are in service in numbers that matter the F-22, F-35, Typhoon and Rafale are not superior to the current generation and certainly not the SH which is in service in numbers that exceed all the above.

Maybe this would be a good time to approach the UK, German, Spanish governments about a deal to pick up some of their unwanted Typhoon production assuming that there is some truth to the various rumours about cutbacks.
On the other hand, $800 US is peanuts and as I said the bulk of the money hasn’t been spent yet. Surely your prime aviation companies have more guts than to role over at this point in the development program.

Looks like a Hornet on a diet to me.

Gee, I looked at the title of this thread and I thought it was about the Typhoon and the Rafale not the F-22 so I simply made the comment that there are both not in service yet and that the build rate is so slow that they are hardly a factor. If you want to make the same observation about the F-22, then fine.

I must agree that both will do a good job once thay are in service but it seems like it will still be years before there will be enough of them to matter.
ELP
What do you think of the fact that both of them have two engine burning up the gas.

Lets just keep in mind that the bulk of the money hasn’t been spent yet.

Based on previous comments and discussions it’s difficult to come up with prices that are even generally accepted.

Is there a reliable source for the claim that it costs $8 billion US/ year to maintain the coatings on the B-2? Hard to imagine that such info is available even if true which I doubt.
Sauron
The F-15 will overlap the service of the F-22 for a significant period if for no other reason than it will take years to produce the 300 or so F-22s that are currently planned. Even then, many of the Eagles will have some life in them so those who have suggested they will serve for another 15-20 years are likely correct. At the moment the current generation of USAF fighters are more than adequate for the jobs at hand so Raptor introduction can continue at a crawl.
I bet we don’t even get a smell of the basic F-35 before 2010-12 so I wouldn’t be surprised to see more new F-16’s and F-15’s ordered for the USAF.

I am looking forward to the many creative stories we are going to hear about how the USAF was slaughtered, beaten 100-0, bla, bla…….

Lets hope they make contact and gain control of the Beagle. The Hubble is a great machine but a small object on Mars is far to small to be resolved by it.

TO the contrary, this thread has quite a number of unnecessary and immature comments all from non – US members. You can all recap them for yoursleves.
Sauron
Interesting that the first ones to resort to name calling and insults in these discussions are usually the europeans.
Sauron
The presumption is that the US is insisting everyone do it it’s way. Frankly that’s bull -sh*t and a quick look around by anyone with half a brain can see that fact clearly.
Sauron
Interesting that only the US gets held to these ideals. We don’t hear the same comments about other nations. Perhaps it’s because many of them don’t really have any “ideals” in the first place. When everyone is held to the same standard of behavour then you can whine when the US dosn’t play fair.
