A quarter French perhaps but good enough to respond to the fray when mother Britain (in their case step-mother perhaps ) called upon them and never received much in the way of credit for it. Geforce would probably know were a lot of them are buried.

As a Canadian I am used to being taken for granted and ignored by the US and the UK. It’s just part of the reality of living between the two nations that influence us the most but which are both so self-absorbed they take everyone else for granted until they need something.
But the fact that you consider the UK and Australia to have the most in common with the US while totally ignoring Canada, with which you share a 3000 mile boarder, shares part of your history, is far and away your biggest economic trading partner and is to a significant extent very similar to the US in many respects, simply blows my mind.
I am a huge fan of the US and get extremly annoyed whenever I see and hear the BS and lies that are spread about it, but there are days when I think that your power and influence in the world requires actually puts you at a disadvantage when it comes to seeing what is right under your nose. I understand and accept the reality of why Canadians know more about the US than Americans do about Canada but it doesn’t explain you total lack of awareness.
We expect to be ignored by the British because they have always looked down their long nose at us (until they need us to help them fight a war) but somehow I expect more from our nextdoor neighbour.

Re Regan and Clinton. Neither was ‘born’ an actor or a lawyer.
All American born are eligible to vote and get involved in politics and become president and as you think G W Bush is a moron, then why not the shmuck from the Bronx?
Pay attention! Arnold can’t become president of the US because he was born in Austria.

I am from Canada not the US.
Boy, you have to go all the way back to Washington to try and counter my comment about the backgrounds of US presidents!
Actually there are much better examples than him. He was just a well to do farmer. If I were you I would have said Kennedy. Without much effort I can list Lincoln, Grant, Truman, Regan and Clinton as examples of presidents who came from modest means.
The office of US president is open to all US born. Were do you get your facts from that 99% of Americans are excluded?
I find your view that Russia and China, both of which murdered millions of their own citizens, “didnt do much wrong” rather interesting.

I am frankly suprised that someone as well informed as you would try and pass off the notion that the US government is some kind of static structure that remains the same from administration to administration. Actually the cast of charactures changes all the time because of the way people are elected, selected and appointed by all three power structures and that includes all of the organizations you mentioned not the least of which is the US congress:)
During the cold war there was a preception that that the US government was at a disadvantage when dealing with non democratic governments such as the USSR and others, precisely because its leadership, policies and officials changed so frequenty.

Your questions are interesting but IMHO the comments are pretty much what we have heard here before. I though the replies would have been more reasoned.

Well President Bush is certainly head and shoulders over Clinton. Clinton was and is a man of little characture much more suitable to the Saturday night comedy shows than as a leader. He has a brain but it is ruled by his balls most of the time. Thankfully there are term limits in the US.
The US has elected Presidents from many different backgrounds during the last 200+ years. Contrast that habit with many of the other western style democracies where it often appears you must be a paid up member of the so called intelectual elite in order to be elected to high office (In Canada, for example, the legal profession totally dominates the provincial and federal governments). The degree and frequency of change and the wide variety of backgrounds in US administrations (both Republican and Democrate) probably explains why the US economy is so strong and why American culture and values are popular world wide (like it or not).
I don’t think Americans generally see themselves as people to feel sorry for, however else they believe the world regards them. It has never had to build a wall to keep folks in.
Europeans in particular, seem to identify with US Democratic administrations. I suppose they believe the Democrates are more like themselves but that’s pretty far fetched (even under the leadership of a ‘Clinton’).
Based on some of the comments here you would think the US is the only place in the world that has problems! Problems comparied to what?
Unpopular in the world for its record of misdeads (real and imagined)? Comparied to who? The USSR/Russia, China, Germany, Japan??? For standing by it’s friends?
Clinton to his credit stood on his head to help resolve the Israeli/Palestine thing (Arafat practically lived at the White House) but what difference did that make to the world? The 9/11 attack still happened and that was only 9 months after Bush took office and only 9 months after 8 years of Clinton.
As far as US democracy and election practicies and results are concerned, they are for Americans to determine and are no one elses business. Some here sound like a broken record on the issue of the 2000 presidential election but are mute about the 2002 results. I doubt that if the results of the Bush/Gore election had been reversed, we would still be hearing the amount of whining that still goes on from Democrates, Hollywood limo-libs, pinkos and socialists.
To some here, George Bush is a dummy or a moron, but for a time being he is the President of the US and gets to live rent free and ride on ‘Airforce One’ while we are all here together on this forum.

Sorry to hear that Geforce but I believe some progress is being made as far as treatment is concerned. In my part of NA the disease is spread through ticks which originally come from infected deer (and mice I believe) which can then get on humans who pass through an infected area.
