I was prepared to read you post with an open mind until I got to the Herr Gobbels reference at the end of the first paragraph. At that point I stopped because it was obvious where you were headed.
Sorry

You may not get much reaction to your questions because a fair discussion could involve some indirect support of the US.
At the moment, the other countries in the area are content to keep the issues confinded to the NK and the US. And why not? This policy has paid off so far. The US has been picking up most of the tab to keep the Idiot in NK happy.
(what else is new?)
The Clinton admin. was content to pay off NK with aid and heating oil. The Bush admin. is refusing to let the blackmail continue. NK plays it’s nuclear card.
Everyone sits back and blames Bush for the calling NK an evil regime (which it is of course) but it’s easier to blame Bush than to actually face up to the facts. A real solution might actually require China, Russia, South Korea and Japan doing something useful or spending a little money and they would rather not.
Those who support Saddam Insane and Iraq, shout about NK being a more urgent problem, but run away when the US asks that they get involved in looking for a real solution. They apparently believe that Bush calling a spade a spade is a greater evil than starving millions. The US is the real problem they say.
IMHO the ‘real problem’ is that the twisted value system of the United Nations continues to be used as the criteria for problem solving and deciding what should be done about them. Until the UN changes, the people in Iraq and North Korea will continue to be starved and oppressed.
Maybe the real reason for the reluctance to face up the facts in NK in some quarters, is that it would eliminate being able to say to the US ‘why are you attacking Iraq when North Korea is the real threat?’
Perhaps the billions the US is giving away to Russia to assist in cleaning up it’s nuclear nightmare, should simply be paid to North Korea instead. That would be a bi- lateral solution which is what most seem to think is the correct approach for the US to take with North Korea anyway.

Finesse
Geforce and Arthur
On this side of the pond, finesse (because we are so common and uneducated ) is usually associated with playing Bridge. Finesse equates to ‘trick’ which simply means an attempt to win a hand using cards of the wrong suit. Sort of the way France is trying to play its cards in the UN at the moment. Soon all will be asked to show their cards….. no trick will do, it will have to be a veto.
Trick’ is also used to discribe what whores do with their clients…. you know ‘turning a trick’. It usually involve lying on ones back or gettng on your knees.
This is a position which is more comfortable for those in some countries (or more familar for) than others.
You follow? Thats a line from Jaws. Jawing is slang for talk. Talk is cheep.
All in fun.

Very sad for Serbia. His popularity seemed to be increasing.
Perhaps understandable given that there are still remnants of the old regime about with an axe to grind. Perhaps some criminal group unhappy with relative political stability abd hoping to find some advantage by introducing a little turmoil.
Maybe Ink would have some insight?
Anyway lets hope this news dosn’t get totally lost due to the Iraq issue. We all lose when this kind of thing gets shoved aside.
The last assasination of a head of state in Europe was in Sweden in 1986?

US and the UN
Perhaps it’s ironic that in spite of the whining about the behavour of the US , it was the US that took the current issue of the inspections to the UN last fall. That’s the inspection regime you some of you seem to think is key now. If it is so important, why did France Germany, China or Russia, not bring it before the Security Council before Bush did?
Could it be that they were all to busy making deals for oil or selling weapons to Iraq?
The US has one of the best ( if not the best) record of bringing such issues before the UN. Korea, the Gulf War with the UK and Afghanistan come to mind.
I don’t recall NATO getting UN approval to attack Serbia a short time ago.
What about the UK/France attack or Egypt?
The UK in the Falklands?
France in Veit Nam (which it then ran away from and left the US to try and sort out the mess) and Algeria?
Russia in East Germany, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and Afghanistan in 1979?
China in Tibet?
Iraq in Iran and Kuwait?
The Arab Israel conflicts and all the others including the current nightware in the Congo which the UN is doing nothing about.
By comparison, the US intervention in Grenada, Panama an Lybia were like police actions.
We could also discuss how the US withdrew from Somalia but if we did we would also have to discuss how Belgium ran away from its responsiblitie in Rwanda and left the UN contingent holding the bag or about the UN troops in Bosnia who handed over thousand to be murdered. Lots of blame to go around it would seem.
SOC
Yes, the issue about who provided weapons to Iraq is a side issue now, but I didn’t bring it up and I thought Hand could at least support his claim:)

Iraq Weapons clarification
Hand
We have all seen such sites. I have been through that one. What I want to see is a list of complete weapons…aircraft, tanks, etc.
The current Iraq forces seem to be armed with French and Russian equipment.
