RE: So I guess it’s just a matter of ‘when’ the US is going to war

    Mr Sauron indeed!

    Guys

The Janes report is one person’s opinion. I see nothing in that piece that hasn’t been said before nor would I expect anyone here to change their opinion, one way or the other, based on what it does say.

Facts? Todays fact are often tomorrows misconceptions. I can’t prove SH hasn’t so called WMD anymore than another here can prove he hasn’t. However, I think it likely he has some and that he wants the bomb. Based on his past record, I believe it is prudent to settle the issue soon. It is a ‘fact’ that the chief weapons inspector of the UN has stated that Iraq is holding out and that its recent declaration its incomplete. Its a ‘fact that SH has ignored the UN for 12 years.

It’s a ‘fact’ that many Iraqis have fled their country. They have that in common, however their opinions on the future may differ. Do they all oppose his removal by force? Not likey.

Its a ‘fact’ that NK has the ability to produce the bomb if it hasn’t already, and thus a ‘fact’ that this diminishes the options the UN has. Do we want to replicate this situation in Iraq by waiting until he has that advantage?

It’s a ‘fact’ that SH has waged aggressive war on his nieghbours. Its a ‘fact’ that he would be in control of most of the oil in the ME if he had been successful. It a ‘fact’ that if the US and the UK hadn’t forced the issue in 1990/91 the UN would have sat on its hands and he would have certainly have the bomb bt now.

The failure to finish off SH in 1991 was a mistake. This mistake was followed closely by the mistake of (at least) not aiding the opposition forces within Iraq. For that the US must carry most of the blame because it listened to and believed the gloom and doom merchants (both within and outside the US) that said to do so would enflame the region and cause massive upheavals throughout the middle east. Looking back, this now seems very unlikely, however it is never-the-less a ‘fact’ that the no-fly zones are protecting many Iraqis who would otherwise be at SH’s mercy.

It is a ‘fact’ that Iraq’s and NK’s nieghbourhoods are vastly different which dictates different solutions. Its a ‘fact’ that the interests and influences of SK, China, Japan and Russia with respect to NK are significantly different than the relationship between Iraq and the rest of the middle east. (Where Israel is the only dependable influence in town).

It’s a ‘fact’ that the people of Iraq will continue to suffer until he goes.

It not a fact that that the governments in the middle east are what they are, due to US policy. This claim is absurd, as is the claim that the US would steal Iraq’s oil.

    Lame stuff.

You do have a point about the SH’s popularity, however. The won the last election fair and square – 100% 🙂

You still haven’t explained why you think it’s a good thing that the people in Iraq continue to live with SH’s brutal lunacracy. If the shoe were on the other foot perhaps you would think differently. Try to think beyond GWB.

All I know is, Iraq deserves better than what you and others here are content to let them live with while you remain secure in your freedom.

The wisdom of hindsight should be ample reason to act against SH sooner rather than later unless of course you reject the possiblity that he would ever play nuclear blackmail as the fruitcake in NK is currently doing. Wait long enough and he will have the bomb.

Perhaps a little more collective backbone and a little less whining on the part world leaders (including those in the middle east and those who some here claim are in the US’s pockets) could avert the war you so fear, or at least encourage some force in Iraq to solve the SH problem themselves.

What a load of hogwash! Not one claim is grounded in fact.

You all live in countries where you have opportunity and free choices to make every day, yet you are so grounded in resentment that you would deny the Iraq’s people the same. Sad.

I have come back to a physical form just to ask why you wish to see the people in Iraq continue to live under SH? Perhaps you believe they are not entitled or worthy of living in a free society?

IMHO they would be gratefull to see SH gone and I find it strange how many here object to any thought of a better existance for Iraq’s people.

I am sure we will hear it all again.

RE: Russia asks for more US dollars to clean up nuclear mess

Today one of the US networks had a short segment on this issue. In summary it claimed that the US has already funded $7 bil US and is being requested to contribute another $10 bil over then next 10 yrs, with a other nations contributing another $10 bil (over the same period presumably). As usual, geting clear details out of the press is a stretch at best.

Due to the shoddy methods used to handle and store this type of material in the days of the USSR and now Russia, it will be a miracle if there isn’t some sort of disaster waiting down the road. Apparently some of the billpayers are questioning the way the Russians keep track of the process.

Media hype it maybe but considering the small number of airframes its likely the most acident/incident prone airliner to fly in.

RE: Saab… Another question for you.

Saab you are quite correct. I would just add that this aspect of the moon’s dynamical properties is called synchronous rotation and as a consequence, the whole moon is successively illuminated by the sun. While we never see the “dark side” the fact that the moon swings or oscillates in both longitude and latitude as it orbits, means that we can actually view approx 59% of the moons surface during the year.

Elsewhere you noted that some of the largest tides occur in the channel Islands and also referred to those near Happy Valley-Goose Bay in Labrador. As Goose Bay is located at the end of a long inlet, the tides there may indeed be large. I believe, however, that the huge tides you refer to are those in the Bay of Fundy between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick which are indeed some of the largest in the world.

Your reference to Happy Valley reminds me that a member of this forum once referred to Happy Valley as being near Hudson’s Bay.:-) The question concerning the moons reminds my that in a recent AFM post someone referred to the landings on the moon as a single event. 🙂
