RE: Investigation continuing
There is a possiblity that people may have been killed in some sort of scrap between locals and the US is being made the bad guy.

RE: Investigation continuing
I just saw a CNN news item on this incident. There does seem to be people killed and wounded. The piece did suggest however, that the investigation team found little evidence to support that a large number of people were killed. When they asked to see bodies they were told they were all buried and when asked to see the graves they were told that the couldn’t.

RE: International Court
Sorry about that.
What I was trying to say above is the US has made a threat to withdraw from only UN “peacekeeping” missions to which it has traditionally never contributed many troops although it has supported the various missions.
It may be a technicality, but I do not believe the US has threatened to withdraw its troops currently deployed in “peacemaking” missions or NATO deployments. As it currently has very few resources deployed in the former role there would be little if any concern over the ICC that the US stand would cause a current mission to collapse.
It would appear that the US is looking for a resolution through its right of the use of a veto as a permanent member of the security power or some other accomodation agreeable to the UN . Some compromise arrangement which would allow the ICC to proceed up to the point of making a charge against US personel but then allow the US to “veto” cases it deems to be only politically motivated and perhaps proceed only with cases it believes are not(politically motivated).
Justifiable or not, like it or not, there is going to be some form of compromise which wiil allow the US to agree with the concept of the ICC without losing control over its own citizens.
I heard today that the countries who have signed on to the ICC represent only 15% of the worlds population. Does this seem correct?

RE: Hamas recruits baby bombers
Well the issue about baby bombers of that age is, but the photo and the message behind it are real enough.

Rabie
If the US did all the peacekeeping, who would pull your chestnuts out of the fire for you?
As far as the ICC goes its simple. The US dosn’t want to waste its time and resources dealing with a flood of bogus charges that would arise every time the US was asked to pull other folks chestnuts out of the fire nor to be subject to a court which would most certainly entertain such charges.

Rabie
The ones that do are always causioned not to fire them during wedding celebrations.
No offence taken as I am not American but I do have a registered firearm and a gun owners permit for my 12 guage pump just in case I need to repel rabid Brits. 🙂 The only folks here that don’t need to abide by these rules are the criminals.

RE: Wedding gift from United States
Lets clarify for those like Garry, Geforce and Ink, who apparently don’t know (or don’t want to be reminded) who the big killers of civilians were in the 20th Century:
Germany
USSR
China
Japan
and the smaller murderers in Turkey, North Korea, Cambodia, Burma, Syria, Iraq, Angola, Rawanda, Balkins, Spain, Argentina, etc, etc, etc.
Of course we know from previous threads that the USA was responsible for most of the wars during that time so actually I may have it wrong.
