I am Scottish , i think the closures of airbases in the UK should be based on more than a percentage , strategic importance above all imo.
As far as racism from English people, thare does seem to be quite a lot of anti-scottish people around, surprises me really , probably not helped by the SNP’s anti-english rants and the English really hated having Gordon Brown as leader.
The use or not of afterburn to supercruise is important from a IR detection point of view, the 31 would light up the night sky!
So is the R-33s agility poor? Its a shame they dropped the R-37 (did work restart in 2006?) as that sounded as if it would have been significantly better.
Isnt the Mig 35 just the export version of the 29M?

This place is soooo full of Raptor fanboys. The F22 will probably never see action , kept at home to protect your shores, god forbid someone shoots one down.

^^^^speaks the truth^^^^^
You dont really need to design a better fighter than the F22 at all, a dangerous one will be enough to deter the yanks.
There is no doubt that an HMS may help, but thrust/weight and wing loading are only indicators. Relevant is the thrust/weight, thrust-drag and drag per lift at relevant speeds and altitudes, something that is not visible from the few numbers available at Wikipedia. Numbers there do not tell about transonic drag rise or supersonic limits of control authority, either.
The Suchoi 27 is a large aircraft and has some compromise built in. Data shows that it is on par with the F-15 with disadvantages at higher speeds. It has advantages in low speed maneuvering.
I do not use wikipedia as a reference , can you be less vague please “some” and “advantages” are less than helpful.
Ok in the WVR arena what US fighter would have an advantage over a su27?
Against a F15C , It has a lower wing loading , better thrust to weight ratio , better low speed handling and HMS, ok the R73s capabilities are over exagerated but i cant think of a US fighter other than the F22 that could match it.
I am not saying that a F15C cant defeat a Su27 , i am just saying that when conditions are equal the SU27 would win more often than not.
I thought The Flankers had been flown with external stores and fueled in response to comments like yours and were able to perform the same routines?
I agree that Airshow routines dont tell you much but its a fact that the flanker in most of its versions is unmatched in WVR by anything the US is flying now except the F22.
With the addition of the ER and ET versions of the R27s + R77 it is also a formidable BVR aircraft unmatched by all except the F22 and APG79 equipped F18s.
From what i have read this forum is full of either US Fanboys who simply will not entertain the suggestion that the Russians have any technology that even equals theres, or the polar opposite.
All of the above is subject to so many variables it means nothing on its own anyway, pilot skill, training, fuel levels, Awacs and general situational awareness etc will determine a winner more than the fighter.
This new Su-35 may be a technological marvel, but in the light of the fact that airplanes like the Typhoon and Super Hornet are already available, plus airplanes like the F-22 and F-35 that make all others obsolete, this new Su-35 just seems like more of the same. I mean does a nation with a force of advanced Su-30’s really need this new Flanker? What do they stand to really gain?[/QUOTE]
Sorry but i dont think the F-22 and F-35 make everything olsolete, only an American could make such a statement.
I will be surprised if the F-22 ever sees action frankly and the F-35 isnt invincible.
Didnt a vietnam era SAM shoot down your stealthy F117 ?
Thanks for the link, interesting…the T-50 is going to have to be one hell of a plane to overshadow the 35 imo.
