Steam turbines is still an very efficient way for powering ships.
Gas turbine engines enjoy many advantages but also have a fatal flaw. The fuel cost for gas turbines is much higher than it is for steam plants. Ship that are gas turbine powered run mostly on their aux diesel engine rather than on gas. Like the HMCS Halifax which are powered by GE LM2500 but mostly cruise on SEMT-Pielstick 20PA6 V280 diesel.

When the 051 first came out China had much experience with high performace steam turbine and the technology is there to utilize. Cost could possible be a reason why 051 designs are still steam powered.

Production of the J-10 has reached three figures and the LCA is still many years away from full service entry.

To be fair, it seems hard to believe that the LCA will ever come close matching the potential production totals for the J-10. China has an operational 5th generation fighter today. India is having a hard time transitioning from the technology demonstrator phase to a credible pre-production prototype.

Ya thats what most people figured.

The topic is completely screwed up when we are comparing an actual production fighter to an tech demo.

Sure LCA is more advanced on paper in some 10-20 years when it reach production phase… Then again why are we comparing it to a production model J-10 now?

yeah its kinda true which thankfully is slowly changing. we would have seen this change way before if we had a law that would restrict the IIT’ians to go to US after finishing the degree.thankfully the reverse of brain drain is happening slowly but steadily.

It’ll take more than just some IIT’ians.

The way I see it. The whole MOD structure need to be reformed and DRDO need to be replaced with something more efficient and organically slaved to the specific armed forces. In the end it’s the Armed forces thats actually going to be using the weapons, so there is absolutely no point in having DRDO developing something that their end customers are going to reject. Unless there is no conciquences in making such stupid decisions as is the current situation.

radar weaponry aerodynamics even Ukraine helped

J-10 radar and electronics development are detailed on open chinese sources in the form of scientific journals. If you were truely an PLA watcher you’ve known that.

If you want to be taken seriously as a PLA watcher you’d better learn not to use third party sources as most of the time they are mostly false of copy and paste of other surces.

If you know chinese and was truely interested in chinese aviation developement I suggest you read some of these articles before blabbering on and on about supposid un proven isreali or russian involvement.

magazines such as 火力与指挥控制 (FIREPOWER and C&C)

here is a data base where you can search for these articles.

In many places, they’re getting well over a thousand bucks for skilled factory labor. These kids don’t spend on rent because they still sleep in their parent’s house. Get it from someone who actually does business there.

Yeah Skilled Factory workers are a rare commodity here…
I have pay around 100 RMB to tech school for every graduate I hire from them in Su Zhou of Zhe Jiang provice. With a company of around 20000 workers and a drop out rate of 20% per year its a tough job to fill all the job posts. Taiwanese company come with more funding and pay around 200 RMB per student and thus usually they get the cream of the crop…
Not that we are short of bachlor degree but typically people with high degrees don’t make good workers. What we really need is skilled CMC operators and such…

But as usual supply is short and Demand is high with an relatively inelastic product…

Jin Su-Mei is a Taiwanese legislator without a party, and often side with pan-blue on most issues…

You don’t really know what you’re talking about. It’s like saying “Arabs love George Bush or Israeli”, or saying “Hu Jintao thinks China is part of Japan”.

That’s Gao Jin Su Mei you are talking about.
Maybe you should check up who jin su mei is before commenting and making a fool out of your self.

Funny you mention Japan, as you see regular anti-Japanese rants in the PRC.

These Anti-japanese rants may or may not be govn’t induce neither you nor I have any proof against them.

But we do know one thing for sure as PRC is persistant on crushing anti-Japanese sentiment. We know for sure that “Bao Diao” ie guarding Tiao Yu Tai island from Japan movement was regularly restricted by the govn’t in the forms of denying passports and visa to HK, the launching pad of such activity. To even public supression of the media to tone down anti-Japanese sentiment. What has the Japanese done? Kozumi visiting that stupid shrine on the day the war started. Who is explicitly more descrete here? If PRC wanted to it could kick out all Japanese auto sales in China. I’m sure the chinese and european auto industy would mind at all. But it did not an instead when Japan threatened to end business loans in China did you see China blatently abtecting to such archaic trashing of one’s economy? No China backed down form the loans. The Japan card isn’t always relyed on by PRC simply because it does not need to. Most friction beteen the two countries is caused by Japan with its male orgie tours to its rising militrism. By the way China isn’t the only one to object to Japanese rhetorics, reguarly you seem more violent South Korean demonstration that often lead to violent movement. Such activety is rarely encountered in China.

And if there is no populism on the Taiwan issue why do you see so much of it over there?

You see so much of it in PRC simply because the mainland have a great many CCTV reporters statione on the island. The reason is to be more open in media as the west always urged it to do so. It shows Taiwanese style democracy, the mistakes Taiwan has endured an the rewards Taiwan has to reap from democracy. Has PRC responded to repeaded open challeges from president Chen? No it has self imposed dicipline to keep the discussion at hand as third party issue and gives curtacy to not involve it self with internal Taiwanese politics. Unlike Taiwanese politicians who openly attack opponents with blatant disregard for personal well being, PRC officials sees it as distaste an in its political process and tens to avoid such behaviour.

And how is Taiwan an imperialist construct like HK when it was formed from the pre-communist government of China? Really, it should be Taiwan claiming back the main land from revolutionary usurpers.

Becaused many Taiwanese have not yet woken up from its imperialist past. Political figures and adviser to president Chen such as lady jin su mei (金素梅) who consider her self to be of Japanese nationality and Taiwan part of Japan. Other simply speak Japanese an this may also be the reason why japanese culture is so faverable on the island… including porno and japanese sauna baths. Why is so many older Taiwanese opsessed with being seen as japanese if not their brain washings from colonial Japan have yet to pass?

You may believe it as evidence of democarcy but plainly it is still reminicent to the no so distant past of Japanese imerialism that thrives on this island till this day.

I have currently backed up all my opinions but what about you? are we only riding on plain fumes here?

OK,you’ve admitted the main threat to Taiwan is the PRC, so in that case the RoC defence planning should be based on a threat from the PRC. Simple. And I’ve spent enough time in the PRC and seen the way politicians use the issue to get a cheap boost to don’t try and claim the PRC doesn’t use the Taiwan issue in a way similar to the way generations of Argentine politicians have used the Falklands issue to get a cheap boost.

PRC have never ever in its history used Taiwan as an “cheap boost” to moral as you blatently put it. If you have ever live in China from the period of 1950 to 1990 you should know. There are far too many things to keep the minds of the people away from certain embarrassments in history. Taiwan is as much a disgrace to CCP as is HK pre 1997 and thus the importance lies with the urgency to unifying a country who was seperated under imperialist rule. A fate that every chinese despise till this day. If beijing simply wanted a diversion away from a slow down of economics they could certainly choose to demonize Japan or to highlight the threat from ugur and tibetan terrorists.
So many things to choose from without as much major international backlashes they why would PRC target Taiwan?

The only issue that ever worried PRC was a unilateral declaration of indepenence my Taiwan in the early 1990s as there was no sure military intervention PLA was capable of. PLA was unequiped for an normandy style invasion. yet the bulk of the force projection lied with the army.

Now it seem the immediate threat of independance was thawt an DDP leader Chen is incapable of leading a country an would be forced to step off pretty soon. The more conservative MA seems like the replacement when the current presidency ends in 2008. Ma supports the One china policy although he argues that there is not one gov’t but two ie. Beijing(PRC) and Taipei(ROC) but will not continue the down the path of stiring up tension between the straights. Ofcourse Ma have no intensions of becomming a premiere of a province of China but if increasing relations with PRC will see Taiwan economical gains then why not do it? Taiwan has every bit to gain from embracing China than from alienating it. Bilateral trade will see diminishing Taiwan economy with continual and effective boost to stir it back to life. It’s a gain gain situation for both sides of the straight.

The canopy doesn’t look the same as in previous prototypes..

I think it’s just perspective change due to the different angle of the two planes.
