Because we watch when China passes legislation enshrining their right to attack Taiwan if they are not happy with the direction that Taiwan’s government takes on the question of seeking true independance in both fact and name?

Because we remember China’s previous excursions into their neighbors territory (Tibet, Russia, Vietnam and the Spratleys)?

First and formost the the democratic choice of the people of Taiwan is not independance and they have already shown that in a referendum. The choice of the Taiwan people unlike that of their president is for peace and stability. IMO thats a wise choice and more beneficial for Taiwan both politically and economically.

Taiwan independance does not consititute the majority of the population… it doesn’t even constitute more than 10% of the population. All the while roughly 10% support Reunion with the mainland…

It is stated very clearly That China cannot single sidely attack Taiwan. It is as much a limitation to the mainland as is to Taiwan. In fact the Law was a better warning than the missile test fire of 1996 could ever hope to achieve.

If you think chasing small gun boat into Iranian waters and shooting down a A300 was the right course of action… that’s some high grade stuff you’ve been smoking…

Electric wiring for factories come in thinner strands and are wired through rigid welded tubes on site. Every wire is built to the energy consumption of that part of the plant and are wired according to the required specs. no whole wire is pre-built. It doesn work that way…

actually $251 billion is in PPP estimation and no where wean the real value of only $45.61 billion as stated by the IMF. BTW I don’t like the PPP charts because we can’t really take into account all the prices of all products and what not. Too much variables and usually in the cases of developing countries their GDP figure is usually bloated beyond proportions.

Debt is debt… no matter internal or external. When Gov put out bonds they have to keep to their promise and pay interest. When the time comes the governement have to repay the money. It doesn’t really matter who owns it… its national debt. BTW this money is already included in the government expenditure of the GDP.

WTF! Viet Nam consider China traditional enemy and the Vietnamese hate the Chin (I do, too, and I have done a lot in that psocess). Viet Nam nowaday is looking to link up with the US and Japan, (just like those countries are looking for partners in Asia against the Chin).

Yup a ticket purchase of Su-30s is a cost effective way of providing vietnam less cost effectiveness and thus less capability. Vietnam does not have a need for a Su-30 class fighter.

India is providing Viet Nam with spares for the Petysa’s and OSA’s. I wonder what those boats are going to be used for since they station and operate close to the Spratly and Paracel islands.

They are used to patrol for pirates , which is common in those waters.
If Vietnam want to enjoy a piece of the Spratly then they have to do their part.

The US and Japan is looking to sign the WTO with Viet Nam soon; president Bush is going to visit soon; more companies are coming; and the US will eventually have Cam Ranh base back, (renting that is).

Last I heard Vietnam refused to rent Cam Ranh to anyone. If the US get it then there will probably be hell to pay… because the Chinese won’t be the least happy to have the americans back.
