And what you think about this one for a newbie? Sony DSC-W7

Great for family portraits or scenery.

Useless for just about anything else.

In theory they are, sure. But it’s not like we’ve been able to test the EMP shielding of an AEGIS cruiser, is it? 😀

No but I think we can assume that the damage will be repairable in reasonable time frame.

But would give the PLANAF a critical time gap they need to seriously damage the fleet though…Interesting.

Things could get nasty if they used an EMP warhead. A ballistic missile launch could be construed as a nuclear launch..?

I thought most military grade electronics are hardened against EMP attacks?

i dont think you could get the sort of pictures im after with a compact. A digital slr has to be the way forward

    well maybe you can
with a canon powershot pro 1 or a nikon coolpix 8700

It’s a little cheaper than the SLR type… minus the lens that is…

Well from what I’ve read, Something is going on in that one Shanghai Jiangnan Shipyard, From what I’ve read It’s very suspicous no matter what as the last time a warship was built in a shipyard area that was designed to prevent any observation, this was the Nagasaki Shipyard, This was prior to WWII in Imperial Japan and this was not for a Carrier, This was for the most Famous pair of warships ever made in Asia at the time, The ships were the Yamoto class Super Battleships(Yamoto and Mushashi, 68,500tons design tonnage), They have the record for main armament of course 9-18.1″ main guns and for taking the most hits before being sunk.

I once built a 1/350th scale model of this monster ship.

So something is going on there If It is indeed true.

What you found fishy about Jiangnan SY is that it’s relocating… vacating the prime piece of realestate in shanghai for the 2010 expo.

Right now they are only trying to fianish up work on the commercial orders and move.

Why is everyone so keen on the Chinese hiding the consturction of a carrier?

The carrier in question is only 40000tons and that is not very large displacement in chinese ship building standards.

We could very well mistake the keel for a commercial ship.

What I ‘ve heard is that there is rumours on CDF that material prep for the aircraft carrier has been started.

When I first saw the pic in the last post it reminded me almost instantly of the Pakistani Babur cruise missile. But the very similar truck in the background shows what definately appears to be a drone of some sort, so as yet I think it is to early to be sure.

    Maybe its UAV..
The one on the right reminds me of WZ-2000. Can’t remember what the other one is…

Both were shown in the last Zhuhai show.

I believe a Luhai came to Cochin not 052B.

btw in the 052 pic above why did put a dummy helix on a unfinished ship ?
for training or to make sure it fits ?

This pic was taken during construction phase. So I guess it was to make sure the Ka-28 would fit…

yj-83 terminal speed is listed at 1.5 mach which is not very fast (Klub is supposed to be around mach 3+) and the missile itself doesnt make sense to me it doesnt have 3rd solid fueled stage for that like Klub so its kinda puzzling how it is supposed to be supersonic in terminal stage. Either way yj-62 looks like it has turbojet from that photo why would the engine and design change if that photo is legit.

Leon, yes that ka-28 looks like a model. Even the model doesnt convey much about whether they can carry that or not i.e: it could very well be that they were testing whether pad not the hanger can handle ka-28. Considering how many of photos of 052 ddg’s are out there its bit hard for anyone to miss ka-28 operating from those ddgs.

During the Sino-India drill there were pics of ka-28 operating off some chinese DDG…

I can’t remember if its the 167 or the new 052B…
If someone could dig up those photos.

    051C = steam turbines still?

don’t know… Could be gas turbines.

But some people claim it’s steam because of the Smoke stacks…

Definately there are Pic of VDS but I can’t tell if they are fitted on any of the ships.

The disscussion at CDF tend to agree that the 054 is fitted with either VDS or TAS.

lack of M is bit surpising since it finished certification trials in 03 IIRC.

Maybe because of the price? Or is it still a custom for the russian to hand out down rated naval equipement…?

but what I’m wondering is why did they remove the front AK630 as well?

The gun is still the AK-YE0…?

    Kashtan-M or regular Kashtan?

Don’t really know since no pics have shown up yet.

Quite unusual as I though Chinese mil fan would flock to take pics of this ship…

All we have to go on is russian reports on the ship.

It’s the kombinirovannogo zenith rocket – artillery complex “chestnut”

there is actually quite a bit of changes I think, but more related to sensors and comand structure.

How? the radar is the same…

Maybe a more modernized C3 but basically the same boat as the two before only with longer ranged moskit and upgraded CIWS.

Ah yes so China is just so much more worthy than India. Its got nothing to do with the Chinese leadership having the luxury of not having to convince the electorate to give them their jobs again every few years or having to deal with the media doing exposes on this failed project or that kickbacks scandal. This is painfully childish. Could we forget the aimless point scoring and direct discussions into areas other than those that allow respective nationalists to get their rocks off. Some members were already trying to stop things and salvage something from this thread that was admitedly doomed as soon as the first poster cut loose on his keyboard. But no you just had dip back in for the last word.

    Daniel

first…I not trying to pick a fight here.

But Daniel you have to keep in mind that the PRC government is elected. The people’s congress is elected and so are many other important positions with the government including the premiere. Now if you want to comment that these elections are phony or rigged than that’s your opinion on Chinese politics. To some degree I agree with you but going so far as to say the government can actually cover up their failures is just simply your lack of knowledge of Chinese matters. Once a mojor screw up happens the media going to jump on it just like anywhere else. After that there maybe hell to pay for some people.

Looking upon current events the most striking catastrophes that have been reported by Chinese media are the chemical plant blow up in Jiling and the coal mine collapse resulting in the resignations and quite possibly criminal charges on many top level officials. Even in the three gorges dam project the media reported on forced relocation of local residents and the withholding of compensation funds.

The question you have to ask your self is where’s the cover up?
