LOL anothr copy from of russia yak 44 😉 dont very just do it no body lookin at u :0

Do you know what a rumour is?

As of now there is no evidence that such a project ever existed. Not even semi mockups or even paper designs.

If a VTOL designed is copied or studied it is definately the Harrier and not the Yak. There was almost a sale of harriers to China in the 80s, so PLAAF or the PLANAF was very interested in the plane.

Maybe they should see if Russia would be willing to sell some Kilos for hard cash……wouldn’t THAT be interesting?!

And **** off their primary client in the process? Not likely…

BTW this is a rumor spread by the corrent Taiwanese government through semi state controlled media to spur some interest in the public for the arms purchase. Nothing substancial to say the least…

But thats the whole point isnt it? There is very little info on Chinese ships. Let’s see if anyone can throw any light on the new ones they are building.

Aside form the 4 newly built 052B/C destroyers and the 2 054 frigates nothing much appears to be happening. Jiangnan SY are relocating out of the Bund in shanghai to make room for the 2010 expo.

The only new developements are the recent deliveries of foreign purchase
BTW the first 956EM Sovremenny is handed over in Dec. Out of the 8 Kilo636 purchased 7 have been delivered.

The 2 unfinished 051Cs with the rif M system and what looks like the tombstone radar on the back built in Dalian SY.

Stop me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t the KMT screaming for the weapons the US was going to sell Taiwan when they were still in charge? As far as I know the opposition is just political grandstaging – plus having a bit of a temper tantrum because they thought they had the presidential elections in the bag.

    well that wasn’t my point.

It’s a bad buy none the less… no matter if the KMT wanted weapons purchase when they were in power.

Politics aside, frankly these subs are not worth what Taiwan would be shelling out…

As of now sub deal is delayed, meaning god knows when they will become operational…

I do recall that the PRC was mightily p*ssed with Holland. The Taiwanese got 2 very capable boats…….but I would like to see them beef up their numbers…tho I don’t know of any nation that would have the guts to sell to Taiwan.

The Zwaardvis was capable for its time…

With the consecutive weapons test failures I can only conclude that either Taiwan haven’t been taking good care in maintnance or the torpedos are completely junk and needs to be replaced quick.

Now the question remains why American torps were not perchased?

no more subs in a long time to come.

Although the US congress aproved the sale of 8 submarines, the Taiwan legislature has repeadily rejected the deal. With the major opposition leading the legislature it’s gonna take a while…

Well not for the wrong reasons actually, since these proposed subs cost more than twice than the european counterpart. They take a huge toll on the economy not to mention they have not even been told what the abilities or make of the subs…
The US is asking Taiwan to take a grossly expensive risk with no guarantees what so ever and that does not make a good confidence boost.

I thought Bombardier (Canada) was the prominent train maker?

    It is…

Bombardier supplies most of the trains in Canada and the US.
including the Amtrak and most of the CN. Bombardier also supplie all the metro and sky train as well.
European market is relatively dominated by prominant corperations of said country and is rather protectionistic against foreign firms.

Currently China is interested in the gas turbine bullet train developed by Bombardier (possibly for the Tibet plateau route? average altitude of 3km above sea level)

Another major train supplier would be Siemens (ie the first ever commercial maglev)

Japan has made no foreign sales… aside from the single fast train line proposed in Taiwan, of which is only a failed political show piece. lol. The test train crawled along the tracks at a record 30km/h.

E500 is completely made of polycarbonate? really?

well I stand corrected on this one…

My E-1 was full magnesium construction so I thought that would carry over… hmm apparently not…

Although the E-500 has many professional features, it is still below par for a professional camera, mainly because of the small viewfinder, lack of custom functions, lack of USB 2.0 connectivity, lack of a vertical grip, long power-on delay, output quality at medium to high ISO settings, only 3 AF sensors and not very high number of frames per second (2.7). If those aspects are not important to you, I’m sure very good results can still be obtained, especially because of the excellent lenses.

Of the missing features you’ve mentioned aside form the lack of some custom features almost none actually affect picture quality and or affect micture taking ability. The slightle smaller viewfinder may or may not cause discomfort but Field of view 95%, Magnification 0.9x is pretty good stats even for pro models.

There really isn’t a good for all camera on the shelf. When you need the High fps then you’d choose the D2X but there are drawbacks as well with that model. If you are not doing a lot of sports action shot then you should be content with 2.7 fps (similar to most film models with motor drives).

medium to high ISO settings is not of much value as I found that even with the toughest lighting conditions ISO set at 100 works remarkbly well…

3 AF sensors may seem less than average but contrary to popular belief the focusing ability of a camera does not rely on the number of sensors but rather how you actually focus. The sigma SD-10 a pro model camera has only one AF sensor and I’ve seen many stunningly sharp pics form this model. So it’s not about the number of AF sensor but if you can effectively utilize what you’ve got.

Anyways if you are a avid photographer you shouldn’t really rely on auto everything… It certainly won’t improve you abilities if you let the camera decide for you every single time…

    USB 2.0 connectivity?
I’ve never had porblems as we remove the memory card and utilize a card reader or a storage drive with a compact flash slot. It’s much faster than to connect to a computer and direct upload. It also means you don’t need to send in your camera every time the assitant has to edit for you.

Pesonally I hate touching light plastic camera body as it makes the whole camera feel cheap…

The Olympus seems to be an excellent camera with very good optics, although not a “pro model” by a longshot (e.g. compared to my Nikon D2x or a Canon EOS 1Ds). Compared to a Nikon D50 or a Canon EOS350D it has its pro’s and con’s. Look at this site for a direct comparison http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/olympuse500/ and judge for yourself. Good luck with your choice!

Why? I’ve a E-1 and I still consider it a pro model and would prefer it over the D50 or a EOS350D even if it has less megapixs. It’s also about the construction of the camera as much as the resolution and you have to take into consideration that not all pixels are equal as the quality of the CCD might differ. For my uses there is absolutely no difference between 5 or 8 Megapixels as the max the pics are ever blown up to is half a spread of a mag.

It always feel more secure when you have a metal chassis over a cheap plastic one… maybe that’s my own personal preferrence…

how the hell did you came up with the idea that the song is a total failure?

No only do all of you know nothing about its operations parameters I doubt that even Janes knows anything other than rumors and/or guesstimations. Aside from the USN, JSDF, or maybe Taiwan military personelle you have close to nothing to say about its acoustic signature.

All we can compare is if there is advanced design elements and the armament it carries. It appears that the Song class out class both the Foxtrot and the 206 in both respects.

For a fact the subs are still considered to be sensitive info thus no public viewing during the HK port visit while the Mings were offered public tours.

I have seen many pics of the interior Kilo leaked by the PLA while for the song there are close to none.

    I’d get the olympus e500v for sure…
It is the only pro model camera in the line up.

It certainly has more freatures than the rest and the lens selection is quite broad and of superb quality. Unlike the nikons and Canon where quality lens cost an arm and a leg the comparable zuiko lens is a bit cheaper.

the Song looks like Foxtrot-MKK circa 1994. a Foxtrot built with 1994 tech would be just as good/bad.

Yuan is where the real meat (if any) is.

    Songs look like foxtrot?

It would’ve been funny if you weren’t actually serious…
