    KDX-II uses SM-2 Block IIIA, not SM-1.

and no comparable radar suit to go with it…

According to the Taipei Times article date 27 April 2005, in a fictitious battle simulated by the Taiwanese military two Kidds shot down 16 out of 40 attacking Chinese aircraft at the loss of one of the Kidds.

yup trust a Taiwan computer simulation to tell you the chinese ability…
I don’t see how it’s possible to shoot down planes at 200km plus before the PLAN planes use their 250km AShM ? BTW Taiwan cheated during the test by using the US reserve stats instead of the uncomparably lower Taiwan stats. lol the simulation had more reseves than active units!!!

Regarding the SSMs, what matters most is sea surveillance capability, not range. Unless your 500-km SSM is supported by a wide-area surveillance system that can detect, track & identify every moving object more than 500-km away, it is unusable. For instance the Russians had to place US-A radar and US-P ELINT satellites in the orbit to find targets for their SS-N-19 SSM. You cannot hit what you cannot track and identify.

So the PLAN Y-8 MPA is useless then…? The AWACS program is useless?

Kidd-class destroyers do well in war games: MND.

I never said the Kidd was a lemon, I said the Kidd were not comparable with the 052C!

COST-BENEFIT: It would take dozens of Chinese jets to sink a Kidd Class destroyer, according to the results of a computer simulation carried out by the defense ministry

government propaganda comming form Taiwan in hopes that it will creat false hope that the ROCN can withstand an invasion. What’s the point? What would you comment on a PLAN study on the same subjects and concluded that it would only take one plane to sink the single Kidd???

    It’s called phony science!

whose engines does the Y-8 use ? if its russian why didnt the Ru refuse to supply engines?

…??? it’s a terbo prop engine… I guess china would have the tech base to build something suitable for the airframe.

I believe the newer Y-8 come with the six bladed prop?

Because that would imply that the extent of indigenous jet-powered combat aircraft in China consists of the K-8 and JJ-1? 😀

you forgot the J-8, Q-5 and the FBC 1 excluding the spays.

Yup, that’s an Aussie Aardvark. It’s not exactly the afterburner plume, but rather fuel being dumped and ignited by the engine exhaust. The fuel dump nozzle is conveniently between the engine nozzles 😀

lol pissing contest with a flare…

a model if their new fighter and supposed picture of prototype being tested…

It’s being nicked named as the Mitsubishi “ビッグ マック”

Asahi Shimbun stated that these new fighters will operate from this new innovative aircraft carrier design that will combine the advantages of a submarine AND an aircraft carrier.

lol anime model from macross plus…
I don’t know who they are trying to fool but it sure looks like a sukhoi to me…

I don’t think it would be a financial problem for Japan to buy and fly the F-22. They are still under that 1% cap and that is about USD50 Billion.

No it actually would become a financial problem since the Japanese economy have just started to recover due to huge increase in trade with China and the huge increase in military spending could potentually curb this trend so i’d guess the F-35 would be a far better choice… TO buy 100 F-22 at estimated 120mil would cost 12 bilion alone without including the increase in maintnance and training costs. that’s already 1/4 of Japanese military spending. It’s simply not economical too buy F22.

If Japan is willing to spend the money on F22 why wouldent a possibly better choice be local developed fighter?

    What about the S-400???

    Maybe the S-300PMU2
The RFAF is just acquiring S-400 and the russians arn’t really motivated to sell their best SAM right away…
