Do you mean a prototype “MiG-31”? That one was Firefox with Clint Eastwood. One of my personal favorites.

Ya now that plane was very slick…

Although it didn’t look a bit like the MIG 31, it kinda resembled the SR-71…

Hey, ID4 had MiG-25s too, you know! I thought the star “plane” was supposed to be the alien thing though ๐Ÿ˜€

Well the alien thing is the enermy right?
what have we learned from top gun??? The enermy however strong is never the main star!

What about the movie showing a special opp that was to steal a prototype MIG29??? what was that called again???

    lol

Idependence Day ??? F-18??? Main Fighter in the major motion pic???

Gripen is easier and cheaper to operate, AFAIK. Thatโ€™s about it.

A friend participated during his national service in a ranger group protecting an airbase (could it have been in a PFP – exercise?).

Some Gripens and some F-16 was operating from the same base. The Gripens landed, got refuelled and rearmed and took of in less than 10 minutes.
The F-16s needed to be checked for 30-40 minutes before they could take of.

Thatโ€™s one advantage for the Gripen, I guess. How important that is can be discussed, thoughโ€ฆ

    Regards

I thought i’vs discussed this before? The STOL of most SAAB plane are because the Swedes can’t afford to build a lot of airstrips thus used the highway as temporary airstrips. So if you have the $$$ you woulden’t need this option. The refuel and rearm time depend largely on safety regulations and training. IE: daytona crew change tires way faster than a regular mechanic eventhough the tire and bolts are stock.

A nuclear shield is only effective if the holder if the shield is really prepared to use it.

Would America really commit to a M.A.D. war with China over Japan?

It is the whole Cold War New York for Hamburg syndrome all over again.

Wether or not it is right or wrong, Japan is western and an allied of the west and America. Although Japan would be advised against such development it would not have the same level of action taken against it as somewhere like Iran or Iraq. Same, although alot more so, with Israel.

Incidentally Japan did conduct a study regarding their ability to construct a nuclear warhead. It reported that it would take a very short time to do so and they gave a very precise number of days, something like 81 days!!!

Japan was a western allie only as a stepping stone in the cold war.
Cold war having now demolished along with USSR, Japan lost somewhat of its tactical importance!
    Japan would face same consiquence.
Being an a non nato ally Japan would not be facing as harsh a US led pressure but a Chinese economic pressure…
Please take note that recently Japan has sluggered out of it Stagnation
only because of increasing trade with China, not because it solved the problem of its uncompetitive industries!

81 days is kinda short and even if a rudementary fissile device is detonated does not demonstrate the combat readyness and the possible deployment of such a weapon. Japan has yet to build a reliable rocket! H2 comes into serives in 2007???

I have my doubts about dutch weapons…

the SAAB only looks good but they have many problems and even the Sweden airforce acknolodges there are some performance issues with the plane that limits it’s effectiveness… on the other hand we have the popular F-16 that have almost no more problems due to extensive systems upgrade.

And there are almost no weapons that comes with the Gripen, you’d still have to purchase them from a third party…

So even though modern technology has allowed people like you, to realize that our lovely Japanese friends are all not pirates you still regard them as so ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Yes just as you regarded native american as savages and called the eskimos or indians. Please we can continue this forever, so for the sake of avoiding an continuing argument we should regard the organized Japanese attacks against china as Piracy. And to the chinese at the time the only Japanese is Pirates.

talk about diverting the subject here, were we not talking about the technological capacities of Indonesians and such at the time? talk about avoiding the question!! ๐Ÿ˜€

of course if we were to talk about raiders, there are other barbarians who raid through means other than ship ๐Ÿ˜‰

You brought up the subject of the possibility other pirates.
I have to correct your views. FYI we are only talking about the coastal area so please stay on topic! Can’t ignore the fact that Japanese were pirates!

hey, it works for people who claim the Spratley islands ๐Ÿ˜€

Chinese have a garason on it, Japan have nada
both PRC and RoC have forces in the Spratley.

The Island Japan that claims only surface after the high tide! It’s nothing like the Spratley!

Never heard of a country called vietMAN ๐Ÿ˜€ but let’s cut to the chase..
how many countries has Japan invaded since WWII ended and how many countries has China fought since WWII ended. Lets see you answer that ๐Ÿ™‚

Typo and sadly everyone makes mistakes…
Isn’t WW2 bad enough? It’s called world war for a reason! I think they killed more ppl in ww2 than in almost all of the conflicts china fought! mind you both china and US never fought any real wars… it’s called police conflict.

well it goes to show how ignorant you are, try living in both Britain and France like I have :).. now that we know you’re canadian, we have some suspicion to who you really are..

Canadians are special because we have both english and french living in the same country! Yet we still see some distinct confrontations. Europe is much worse off.

so you admit that it is a mis-representation, yet still insist that it represents the entire Japan  tsk tsk

It does represent Japan because that is what the wourld know about japan at the time! Why are the columbians called drug traffickers ? Do all columbians
    deal drugs? No!
Chinese have discovered many things before the europeans but never credited with these discouvery. Why? cause no one else knew about them!
ex: Pythagoras theorm was first discovered and published in chinese text but no european knew about it!

Technologically unable to do so? how so? Even Polynesians with rickydick wooden canoes manage to travel all the way to Hawaii and Easter Island.. are you saying the only pirates in Asia are Japanese? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

The Polynesians are not pirates and never came to china even if they did they did not have the arms to combat the chinese coastal howitzers… The japanese are the only ones!

Based on PRC’s maritime claims, is there any body of water that is NOT considered Chinese waters? ๐Ÿ˜€ I mean after all, a Nuclear sub that was spotted by the Japanese not to long ago must’ve been in Chinese waters!

Oh so the Japanese claim to the waters based on a rock 2*2m is legit? lets see someone live on that thing before I would call it a island!

one has a responsible military the other has an irrational, irresponsible and unpredictable military… based on your thinking, smaller nations like Vietnam, N.Korea, and S.Korea are allowed to fly missiles over China eh? :dev2:

A responsive army that invaded almost the whole of asia… while the NK and Vietnam never fought anybody off of the korean peninsula or Vietman?

Try living in Europe buddy ๐Ÿ˜‰
Here is where i’m justified regarding your lack of insight on european history! ๐Ÿ˜€

I’ve been to most European countries FYI…and yes the French are Sneering towards the Brits. Although i’m not really interested in european history i’m quite well versed due to my education background in Canada…We were required to learn in school.

The F-2 is almost a scaled enlargement of the F-16. There are proformance issues due to the fact that although the jet resembles the F-16 have quite different flight charateristics thus different performance. It is by far heavier than the F-16 and heavy reliance on the single engine! it compensate by enlarging the wing span to increase lift but can not compensate the decreased thrust to weight ratio!

What do you mean by “how much was the Blackbird”?

I mean how much $$$ was spend on R&D of the Black brid espically the ejection? i know for a fact that because the blackbird was to eject at high mach speeds the whole approach to conventional ejection seat was scraped and the whole thing redesigned.

If I had the money they I would opt for a new ASM or LACM thats gonna be cheaper… So logically it’s not fesable for an ejection.

Blackbird crewmembers have survived ejections at Mach 3+ and altitudes in excess of 80,000 feet, so it’s hardly suicidal if you have the right equipment.

Ya how much was the blackbird???
kamakazi are used as a last resort when all else fail… meaning no money!!!

Why need to kamikaze when u can eject? I’m thinking of a ramjet cruise missile guide by both human and seeker. When decoy ,jamming and chaff r deployed by enemy to confuse the missile in seeker mode and succeed, the human inside the missile switch to pilot manual mode to take over piloting and guide the missiles itself into the target, eject seconds before impact. But the result for the piulot will be either become POW or kill.

ejecting at mach speeds is suicidal at best so what’s the point? :diablo:

… use a Mig-25 or Mig-33 fill up full with fuel and arms, approach at low altitudes and high velocity is very deadly combo…

My mother used to work for the HuDong shipyards in Shanghai…
my mother used to tell me that a yard near shanghai on the upper banks of HUANG PU makes SSN(speculation here) Subs for the PLAN called something like the 903 military yard. It’s very secretive and my father who worked for the ore and mineral bureau supplied the steal for the hulls. (the bureau no longer exsists but it used to control all steel production and distribution in Shanghai)

I’ve thought the plant being so near shanghai there must be leaks… maybe the new hulls are not build there???
