Anyway this thread is about the cost effectiveness of the Typhoon… not Cold War politics.

Why didn’t you just say that in the beginning and save yourself the trouble of writing all that?

Anyone notice how thin the wings on F-22’s are? I guess they aren’t meant to carry anything outside the weapons bays.

Thanks for bringing us back to reality! Only thing is, I’m slightly disturbed and have the distinct feeling, that in case we wouldn’t speculate, that whole board would consist of only one or two postings a month.

Hey it’s all in good fun, unlike some people on this board, who belong to certain part of the world where their countries start with letters I and P. And the pro-French or rather pro-Rafale crowd.

Why would Japan want to buy F-22? What makes any of us think they would want an extraordinarily expensive plane? And with number of planes involved, I doubt they would want to export all of the planes from US. And I don’t think US government would want Lockheed to setup shop in Japan to build the F-22.

Probably cheaper for them to build a Japanese version of F-35.

In reality, they should buy the Eurofighter, since this is the best Air-Defense fighter, second only to F-22.

But what do any of us know, we’re all talking out of our collective asses anyway.

Probably go with JSF. No country can afford F-22.
I would think they will go with F-35C, since it is most capable of the the variant. Wonder if US will think about sell them without the carrier bits?

Probably the Brits will go with this version as well since their carrier will fall further behind schedule. Might as put the damn catapult and arrest wires to begin with.

So did the RAF nix the gun on the Typhoon or not?

Last I heard, it would be cheaper to leave the gun in it’s place and not use them. Rather than try to design something to take its place and balance the plane properly.

God speed Pilotght, hope the British, German, Italian and Spanish government doesn’t find you, before you expose their lies and dirty tricks!

Hope you expose them for what they have perpetrated on the whole aerospace community.

You seem to be of some sort of Expert in this field! How come you have not spoken up before!

it seems they haven’t the same hopes than you!

Blah, blah blah, more delusional french idiocy. Dude believe whatever you want to believe, because no one really care what you think.

And really nothing against French people in general, just French people who post on this forum.

Only reason why French had any presence during the liberation was political move my the Allies, to save the sorry French people’s dignity. It’s got to be pretty embarrassing have a foreign army march down your capital twice in the same war!

So say thank you and stop your pretentious lip flapping. And why are you trying to convince people with your “French” version of history. No one is buying it.

you’re talking about EF2000 and JSF for UK and mirage2000 for France 😮

No, I wasn’t making a direct comparison, between those planes. And I know the French has Rafale in the future but what else is coming?

    Do you know?

Yes the Italians doesn’t like the Tornado ADV, in allied force the Starfighter was more useful because if you need to scramble with an ADV a Serbian MiG 29, had already bombed its target, the ADV was suited for another kind of mission and was a wrong choice.

What were the requirement for the planes?
If you were looking for advanced Interceptor with extended loiter time and BVR killing ability and capability to engage multiple targets then Tornado ADV is the plane for that job, but if its just A2A combat, than of course its not the right plane for that job. That’s like say, Wrench is useless tool and bad product because it cant drive in nails.

I DONT NEED ANY BOOK OR ANYTHING to write all what I’ve just written, because I know history, and especially the one of my country, unlike you, who don’t know european history even if you think so, you just spread bull****s.

Your statement there is the root of all problem, the history is written by the people of the country you live in. So no matter how you want to be objective your view of France is distorted.
For example, in Japan the school children are taught that Japan did nothing wrong in WW2, or they did not really commit atrocity in China or they were the champion of Asian people over Western dominance. So when you say you know European history, you actually know only the French view of it. Unless you’ve studied history abroad, your view of what took place is not really accurate. And this also goes to anyone else who is spouting about “History of my country”

    Getting back to the topic:
The topic of the particular thread “Best European Airpower” not “Best European Airpower but only if they have good Air to Air combat aircraft” So with that out of the way, Best European Airpower is UK, not only because they have one of the most modern fleet of aircraft:
they have the best support system (all these complains about F3 and Harrier but you don’t see RAF complaining. They know how to fix their planes)
    they have their own AEW
they have the best ASW aircraft
most modern transport aircraft and helicopters
    Largest fleet of Tankers
Their current inventory of Tornado is the best interdiction and strike aircraft in Europe. Now the Tornados F3 are clear to carry AMRAAM and ASRAAM.
    None has aircraft like Harrier
Their arsenal of weapons are best or one of the best used by any air-force in the world.
They have the best training system.
Their future fleet of aircraft will include Eurofighter and JSF.
So why there are any doubt that this is the best Airpower is Europe is bit perplexing.

Only thing the French fleet have is the Mirage 2000, albeit a lovely aircraft but nothing to really boast about.

    You people are just funny!

It doesn’t matter what planes you are flying, training is more important. I’ll take a RAF pilots over any European nations.
All things being equal or very similar, it’s pilots skill that makes the difference.

And the reason why RAF did not have A2A fighter was that it wasnt the missions that they were preparing for during the cold war.

Oh and French are weasels, not doubt about that. Consider this, their best military units are actually the Foreign Legions, and the reason why? No French citizen are allowed. Nuff said. :p

You people need to chill out

    Hey Phil

You really can not reason with people who are stupid, ignorant and closed minded or English isn’t their native language. They will refuse to listen to you no matter how civil or courteous, you try to be.

They will misunderstand you or not know what you are trying to say. You can’t have a civil discussion because they become emotional and irrational.

So best thing to do is call them Fu*cking morons and ignore them.
