Speaking personally, I would very carefully conserve what is left, and build a full scale replica of the boat to be displayed alongside, complete in every detail.
Bruce
Yep I agree wholeheartedly.

If you’ve got the time to go to other than established museums you could get Michael Blaugher’s book “Guide to over 900 aircraft museums in the US & Canada”. Mine is the 21st edition – the current one perhaps has increased the figure “900” in the title. It is I think only available by mail so unless you can arrange shipping to somewhere in the US you probably don’t have time. He does make them available on ebay.com.
It is a state-by-state listing of aircraft museums, military memorials and individual display aircraft (ie in city parks) but I found it not 100% accurate. Trying to find an F.86 in one town in Missouri I was eventually told it had been “taken away years ago”
Bob Ogden’s books (as mentioned) are available and recommended but some are a few years old. Vol 6 covers the South Eastern states and includes North and South Carolina.
Bob told me he probably wasn’t going to do any new editions as so much info is available on the ‘net. – a shame.

Don Brown’s Putnam book lists 16 M.3B to M.3E Falcon six (pages 86/7) but this (or the preceeding descriptive pages) do not mention use by any airlines.

Great pics, love this sort of stuff, and it’s very rare. Amazing how much is still turning up!

Very nice, nice pic of the Beaufighter cockpit, i’ve never seen it so light, and i was there the other week! Looks like they’ve closed the nose on the Argosy since my last visit too.
Cheers, Rob
Rob, The Argosy nose is normally kept shut and opened on various occasions. There is a hand-crank that is fitted and turned to open it.
Re the Beaufighter cockpit there are two scale models (1/48 and 1/72??) suspended in front of it – the effect works very well (apart from the lack of deafening noise!). As well as the fact that Beaufighter fuselages were built locally by The Standard Motor Co, the Museum used to have a very keen ex-Beaufighter pilot Les DeFaye (ex Sgt) amongst it’s volunteers.

Peter, the fuselage section is the last remnants of a Whitley!
Cheers
Kev
It’s rather hidden away now, but it is the rear end of the fuselage and there is also a tailplane and one of the fins attached (just behind the tall display case).

Great to see these – that line up of MiGs is fantastic.

Don’t know if you remember Gordon, in those happy, far-off days of the M.A.P.S. I “found” the timber building that had been the clubhouse of the East Midlands Flying Club at Sywell.
It had been relocated and was used, as I recall, to store apples in. I had dreams of acquiring it, re-erecting it at Baginton and putting the E.M.A.C. Pou du Ciel, G-AEGV on display in it.
I’m sure I’ve got the location marked on a roadmap somewhere but it was well over 30 years ago. Wonder if it’s still there?

What happened to the eight or so Oxford wrecks that were found in Canada as reported in FlyPast? They were far gone but could provide some sections to make one or two complete examples. We have the tailwheel-assembly of an Oxford in the museum which was used for instruction and some parts have been cut away,
Cheers

Didn’t Mark Evans, Midland Warplane Museum import one(or two) of these a few years ago? I recall the intention was to rebuild one and offer the other.
Just looked at W & R (p.216) which refers to only one at Baxterley (“off-site”) and says it may be DH-built AT601.

Lovely stuff
Am jealous though – only time I’ve been to Washington was a few weeks before U-H, Dulles opened so couldn’t visit. Ah well one day perhaps.

Love interest definitely, i can’t think of one movie at all without a love part in it!
