Interesting video, illustrates even better than the stills the violence of the impacts. Hard to tell from the angle but he must have had a nasty few seconds when it looked like he might have gone into that flight line of exec jets & trainers !
I wonder if the wing dig in was as a result of trying to steer the aircraft away from that flightline?

I was also interested in his comments about difference in size and duration of ammunition.
With all the “which was the best fighter?” comparisons there have been can anyone say what the three fighters had in total weight of bullets/canon rounds to leave the gun ports.
Another thing suprised me was the quantity stated of aircraft per RAF Squadron. 20 – is that right? I always assumed (as, we were told, did the Luftwaffe) it was far less than that.

…….”Never (NEVER!!!!) part with your money until you’re at the airfield. If the company goes down the tubes, you’ll lose it”…….
But surely if you book in advance and pay by credit card you are protected?

The website is up dated with a map showing the event layout (bit fanciful!!). Go to:

Got to hope for good weather though 🙂
Little bit more info:
Over 90 light aircraft have, so far apparently, requested Fly In slots ranging from a flex wing microlight to a Stearman, and 6 to 8 Austers are expected. The Cessna line up will hopefully include a C510, Corvallis TT and maybe a Caravan
Should get a Sea Fury (if it passes it’s air test on Wednesday) and the BBMF should be the Lancaster, a Spitfire and Hurricane. On the down side the two Vigilants (or are they Valiants?) have cancelled.
As I said before get there early (or pre-book) to avoid off-site parking (Brandon Stadium).

Curlyboy – the organisers say it is NOT an air show/display it is a fly in 🙂
As far as I can see MAM have no link with the day (you can still visit there of course) whereas entry to Airbase is included in the admission price.

…………..Similarly, though we are yet to see it, will we learn any more about the battle from ‘Obi Wan Kenobi’ flying in a 2 seat Spitfire, that we couldnt have learnt from repeats of programmes from 10 or 20 years ago. I suspect not…………..Bruce
Education through entertainment. We often lament lack of knowledge of our aviation history amongst our young people and, whilst I’m against ‘dumbing down’, this kind of thing can surely help.
I would think that a programme about the Battle of Britain will be more acceptable to today’s youngsters with him (a film star they recognise and can associate themselves with) than without. I reckon it could well make the difference between them watching it and not watching it.
Roger Smith.
Thanks Mark12 – that was useful and interesting information that I am sure will be of interest to the many members who await it’s arrival eagerly. I hope the mods see it that way too 🙂
Roger Smith.
No mention of a price/prices – can you give us a clue??
Roger Smith.
Hindenburg – that address must be close to my late mother’s childhood home in Trentham Road. During the war, although married and living elsewhere in Coventry, she would have been still working at the Co-op dairy in Swan Lane.
Is it a butterfly bomb, did the Luftwaffe use such weapons? Could it be some device to slow the fall of the bomb?
How did the photo album get to Somerset?

Was watching the arrival (on tv) of the Pope’s aircraft (modern 2-engined thingey with windows) and was interested to see, first, a union jack appear outside the cockpit then (eventually), on the other side, a Papal flag.
When the camera zoomed in you could just make out the brackets fitting the flag to the window frame. I wondered if they were an official manufacturer’s piece of equipment or something a fitter had knocked up at Alitalia’s workshops?
Sorry, not very historic 🙂
Roger Smith.
I guess there is a bit of a difference in size between a factory producing Beagle Pups and one turning out B-52s :diablo::diablo:
I wonder if the US has similar ‘protection’ laws in place similar to our grading system?
Roger Smith.
Thanks for posting – great pictures. Looking forward to seeing more.
Roger Smith.
Thanks for that. It appears to have been written by a ‘non-aircraft’ person but is non the less interesting for that.
It suggests (at the end of the “Aircraft Production” page0 that the aircraft lift (pictured above with Austin’s first Fairey Battle on it) still exists – or maybe it’s just the site. Will have to try and find out.
Roger Smith.
Was there a submarine named HMS Spitfire???
