Good point Steve I wouldn’t think any ammount of original structure would have saved the pilot on soft grass I would love to fly in a warbird one day but you can dream I suppose.
Moggy C Seeing as you said I have been fed duff gen have you any idea how it is funded (not that it’s any buisness of mine or anyone else) but it must be a massive outlay as it seems the biggest and best collection outside the USA probably in the top ten in the world.
I was told that no way would you get stress calculations to requirements as too much structure is cut out and no way can you replace the strength you loose when you remove the armour plated bulkhead and surrounding frames etc not to mention the rollover frame. Perhaps grayfly could get the guy who’s doing the project to fill us in on this. can you help with this tech+nical point grayfly?
Ant Harrington you say about the CAA not letting a Sea Fury fly in the UK with an American engine then how come they let a converted Sea Fury fly ie a singl seat to a two seat even if it might have been on the American register?
Hey Bentwingbomber, be careful oviously a Corsair expert about I was told the Corsair nose was supposed to be white ?
No but Iv’e seen a red sky at night!!
Have to agree with grayfly and droptank I know very little but if you stop and think a little (a concept that is strange on this forum) A year to get the A/C ready dear dear I am sure grayfly would know better than I by a long way but count the ammount of A/C TFC has and think that they will all need an inspection (bit like an mot I suppose and a total guess at 2 weeks per A/C then you have got just a tiny bit of the year left. Oh and I nearly forgot the small detail of rebuilds.
I wouldn’t think that TFC flies as a charity what happens when one of the other outfits that flies for a lot less money blows a engine or something else.
On the TFC being sponsered by Red Bull come on chaps one blow torch covered in the logo of that sugar free c–p is bad enough I would think that Mr Grey would chop his arms off first.
PS I was informed that TFC is self financing.
Thanks for that it sounds a great display must be bloody hard work for the enginers and the volunteers and I hope that people appreciate the effort I know I will.
They stop you being a choir girl don’t they?
Cheers deadstick for that small insight I might try and find you guys at the Friends of the fighter collection tent and if I can afford it maybee I can join up.How close to the aircraft do you get on the flightline walk as it would be good to get alittle closer to the aircraft for once.
Hey Deadstick I didn’t realise this Dave Lees had started the Sea Fury rebuild? as it seems not to have moved much in the last 3 years.
He’ll be working too hard
bentwingbomber try the crewroom he loves his coffee
Without phoning them I wouldn’t know sorry
Hey Steve people probably don’t know where Sawston actually is.
