Avro Avian
Some interesting projects there, sorry I wrote down J1/B instead of J5B. Appart from a Mk III, I think my next preference in Austers is the J5B
With the Avro Avian, what are the drawings of, is there sufficient detail to build a replica. Lang Kidby rebuild a Avro Avian so we have some local knowledge about Avians. I have had a theory for a while that that we need some good original replica projects that can be built under the experimental category.
An Avro Avian would fit the bill with a “converted to upright” Gipsy Major as the power plant.
I wonder what became of Lang’s Avian?
cheers
What a great effort and a great looking aeroplane

Heard that they are shredding (poke them into a big machine – little bits come out the other end) the old F111’s at Amberley, maybe someone might have more info on that

Well for you people “South of the Border” that should break the drought you have been having and fill Melbourne’s dams.

About a year ago our main water supply for Brisbane got down to 18% and we were limited to 140 litres per person per day.
Actual usage got below that, then it started to rain again, I think the supply is now back to over 70% and we have had a lot of rain in the past few weeks. Forecast is for it to rain heavily for the next few days, so it likely will go up a few percent on that. We are talking seriously big dam here, the government build a reverse osmosis plants to recycle the sewerage and desalination plants (reverse osmosis again) to get fresh water from the see. big pipelines about 100 kilometers in length etc.
A major airshow or flying that everyone is looking forward to always seems to attract rain, so here is hoping….. well not on the day, just around it.
I want to do some fabric work, but the high humidity slows me down.

With the level of detail you are going into, can you produce a set of drawings that could be used to build a fuselage (including the various stress calcs).

I think I heard that someone had built a Tiger wing and made ribs that were parallel to the airflow.
Anyone else hear such a thing or is it my mind playing tricks.
cheers
I think that it would be an awful lot of trouble both with certification as well as construction wise as the ribs would have to be longer and totally different for minimal aerodynamic gain. Ok if you’re starting something from scratch.
John
Obviously one would be building a new set of wings and the plane would have to be in the experimental category. The resulting aeroplane would not be a Tiger
What is not obvious is the quantum of the reduction in drag – could be more than one thinks at first consideration.
The TSR2 along with stuff on Spitfires is one of the most over discussed topics on this forum, so in keeping with the spirit of that, I thought the name “Dud” might be appropiate.
You can feel your IQ drop at the mention of TSR2

OK I’m impressed – really impressed. Photos make me want to get stuck into my project.
Thought I would put up this image of the re-inforcing under the rear cabin floor, I think its interesting how it was done.

Hello
Yes they certainly do look like a a substitute, I know of a Proctor restorer in England that is also looking for the same part so I have sent an email to Mike to let him know.
I might check out a if a similar item available for Mini’s in Australia. What is a Classic Mini – is that the old one from the 1960’s. I have a old Mini Cooper S in my hangar, might have a look under it at the exhaust.
Assuming that it might not be suitable, any other suggestions are welcome
Thanks
G’day all
It’s one thing to say the drawings exist, it’s another to have access to them. For instance where can I get DH60 drawings. I have a friend who is restoring a DH60.
Cheers
Try again now
Typical yankee spec’s, they quote a fuel flow of 30 litres an hour for a
460 HP V8 at 65% power? Pretty good figures but then again they are the greatest nation in the known universe. 😀
Hold on, Mike is one of ours – the absolutely top nation in the world AUSTRALIAN, we aren’t broke like you Europeans or the USA – financed by the Chinese – living off past glories.
When it comes to talking crap, we can match the best of them
cheers

Thought I would post a picture of VH-BGU taken at Watts Bridge Airfield, last June. Bit of ole old British agricultural machinary, My Auster and my old Fergy
