Is it being painted at Humberside? It was due to land there last Sunday evening – for a quick spray job?

Hi bc_h: Pleased to hear that! By the sound of it, though, the glider boys don’t feature in your plans.

Aren’t you a bit late with your appeal? The deadline for receipt of final bids has already been extended by three weeks and now expires on 14 September. Will you have your bid and its finance ready by then?

Also, the people behind the Windrushers Gliding Club have also been appealing for help and support to buy the site. Are you working together or against one another?

Duxman: I think you will find that your pic of E6938 was taken inside a C-Type hangar at Cranwell in 1970 – 50th Anniversary of the RAF College?

Probably areas of spring-drilled maize to act as game cover in the following autumn prior to the pre-Christmas shoots. The main crop area is probably winter-drilled wheat/barley.

BBC now reporting that the fire is under control but there are fears that the hangar might collapse.:

It is the ARS hangar that is affected (like a mini C-Type). The hangar is used by Winchester Marine as a workshop and for the storage of plant and machinery (posted by the BBC as ‘planes’ and machinery).

The airstrip described in Twotter’s link is out in the centre of the airfield, in the part that is known as Manby Motorplex, and not part of the Winchester Marine compound.

Looks like its the ARS hangar in the Winchester Marine compound.

The bit that is for sale for £3.5m is the Manby Motorplex site, which is the open airfield, now used for agriculture and a variety of motorsport activities.

Sorry Mr R, not getting at you. Just trying to avoid other people wasting time trying to ‘locate’ the pic at Andrewsfield.

The B-17 pic was taken at Fenland. The photog is looking North. The aircraft is heading South. The Clubhouse and Tower are out of shot to the right. The same pic appears in Alistair Goodrum’s recent book on aviation in South Lincs (title not to hand).

There may be pics of the B-17 doing the same thing at Andrewsfield, but this is not one of them.

The BBMF 2012 brochure has also been on sale for a month or so now – excellent value for £2.00.
