I wonder if such has ever happened (simultaneous losses).
I wondered the same thing myself after reading the news at work.
And word came down about an hour ago… no Thunderbirds at Kirtland AFB this weekend.

Sadly, the Blue Angels pilot was killed.
The Thunderbirds are scheduled to fly into Kirtland AFB for a weekend air show. At this point, no official word has been released if the show is still on.
Thanks for sharing the news! While I knew I wasn’t going to make it down to Pima this year, this may be just the incentive I need to pay a visit at some point next year!

May 8… Kirtland AFB, NM. Never imagined I would see an Airbus A400M here in the states. I was glad I was in the right place at the right time on this day!
As per local Albuquerque news, it’s was a T-6 based out of Corpus Christi (they train in this area all the time). Apparently there was a landing gear issue, and both crew members elected to eject.
Thanks all for the information!
I had thought the crash and subsequent grounding had happened later in May, but that would explain why it’s been here since it landed with what I assume was some sort of a weapons delivery.
Hope it gets back into the air soon, and I’m lucky enough to be somewhere to get a decent picture again.

Wow! Looks like quite a bit has changed since I stopped in 15 months ago.
Thanks for sharing your pictures. Hopefully I can get back that way again one day.
Rob
Nice pictures… thanks for sharing!
Interesting… didn’t recall hearing this on the local news this morning.
May have to run out to Double Eagle (about 20 minutes from my house) and take a look.

I arrived at Kirtland in 2008, and it was in place at that time (east side of the NM ANG complex). It was in pretty bad shape, but was “restored” about two years ago.
