    Hi all aero engine enthusiast’s,

I have made further progress with the Lion rebuild, the arrival of the piston’s was a major step forward, all the major assembly’s went together without too much drama.

Hi Sagin, take a look at “Blackburn Aircraft since 1909 by A.J.Jackson”, it is very good.
While working on the Dart have a look at the similar Velos and it’s Greek connection.

Thanks again John, it is great that you can see the screw-in valve seats that hold the cylinders to the heads and the valve decompressor rods.

Has the aircraft that had this engine fitted been identified yet ?

    Hi PanzerJohn,

Thanks for the best shot of the Malta Lion engine I have seen, it really shows the workings of the engine well.

    Hi Lancman and all,

I can’t speak for other’s but my reason to help in the small way we have is that these guy’s working on this project seem too be “doer’s not talker’s” and that makes all the difference.

Good luck, I am looking forward to seeing and hearing it run.

    Hi P&P,

A really impressive set of blanks and a lot of precision work, well done, after yours it is more than obvious that I made mine in an afternoon with an old Belle cement mixer gearbox, it is still working and has rebuilt 4 engines so far, a 1924 Napier Lion, a 1914 Daimler and 2 1913 Chalmers 17’s.

The stampings are on the curved outer part of the centre boss, the flat sides may show mounting hub indentations from being clamped in use.

    Hello Wyvernfan and all,

I have a similar item that is still a table, it is from a Napier Lion XIA and stamped “Aboukir” unsure of exact type.

    Happy Christmas Engineman and all,

What a strange situation regarding the engines owners, ah well, it takes all sorts, I have a pair of series 5a Lions, one a runner, the other waiting a rebuild, they are beautiful to work on.

    Morning Engineman,

Take a trip down to the Shuttleworth collection, they have an example of that engine and are always happy to help people with a project such as yours.
