Robin was so enthusiastic for engineering and aero engines, I will always think of him when I run an engine.

Hi all,
I have just collected a 4 blade test club for the Lion engine, I am really looking forward to it’s first running.

Evenin Schneiderman,
The IIB, VA and XIA’s are the same exhuast/inlet set up for the middle bank as the VIID,

The VIIA and B are the opposite,

Hi Schneiderman and all,
You are right with the records, I forgot the “at the same time bit” but the change in the exhaust – inlet sides seem’s to be on VIIA and B, I have not seen the VIID’s with the centre bank changed, it is still a new cylinder head.

Hi to all engine enthusiast’s in the Manchester area,
At the Anson engine museum in Higher Poynton on Saturday weather permitting will be a Rolls-Royce Griffon, a Bristol Hercules and my Napier Lion, all doing a few engine run’s along with many of the fantastic restored steam and diesel engine’s belonging to the museum.

Saturday at Old Warden was a wonderful day, great aircraft and a wonderful atmosphere, it was my first time to see the Edwardians in flight, they were a great sight.

Hi James D,
The lion engine was designed by AJ Rowledge in 1917, it had no parents and no offspring but held world speed records on land, sea and in the air, the only engine to do this, as well as powering over 160 aircraft types between 1918 and 1939.
Andy
Hi all
James D, it isn’t just one of the heads that is different, all three are different, not only is it the inlet and exhaust each side of the head, it is the cam drives at the rear, because the shaft drives to only one of the cams it is angled to one side of centre and this changes from left and middle to the right head, also water cooling flows are different, also that would give leave you with one of the carburettors and inlets out in the airflow giving icing and airflow problems.
Thanks again for the interest in the Lion, hope to see some forum members at the Shuttleworth.
Andy
Hi all,
off to the Shuttleworth collection again this Saturday with the Lion engine, weather permitting I hope to do a few runs, the Napier Railton will also be in attendance.
Mill Meece steam day went well,

Hi Rob and all,
Rob, thank you for your kind word’s and interest in the Lion, those fantastic shot’s from the Shuttleworth last weekend make it look great.
Andy
Hi Roger and all,
We had a great day at Old Warden on Sunday, lot’s of aircraft putting on a good show, good weather and that friendly atmosphere you get at the Shuttleworth collection event’s.
The Lion engine didn’t let me down and we made lot’s of noise,

Roger, the collection’s Lion engine is having a bit of TLC and will be finished soon, I had a good look over it and it has no engine number’s at all, in fact no number’s other than casting date’s, I can only guess that the engine was a factory cutaway from new ?
I met up with a couple of people from this forum, it was great to meet you.
