What is the source of this information? Anyway, if this information is true I am not surprised, I was actually expecting another delay. IOC by 2011 isn´t realistic…
As far as I know HAL has stated that adopting another engine will take 3-5 years of work -and after those years the IAF is only considering acquiring the Tejas Mk2?
I really believe it is the end of the program. 🙁
Maybe Chinese fighters could be good alternative for Ukraine but, I believe this would be a too exotic solution for the Ukrainians. How much do the J-10 and JF-17 cost?
Off topic but, do you know that the old Soviet propaganda tabloid “Pravda” is still around? 😮 To fully understand the Russian posters here you need read Pravda´s articles about EU and NATO and USA. Believe me it´s so sick that it will make you laugh 😀 Not much seems to have changed since the Soviet Union. 🙁 Check it out at:
They should just buy some Chinese aircraft (J-10, or – better yet – J11B)
Would these be fully adopted to NATO standard?
http://www.stranslation.com/Ukrainian_Translation/military_of_ukraine.htm
Ukraine’s stated national policy is Euro-Atlantic integration, including with both NATO and the European Union. Ukraine has a “Distinctive Partnership” with NATO and has been an active participant in Partnership for Peace exercises and in Balkans peacekeeping. This close relationship with NATO has been most apparent with Ukrainian cooperation and combined peacekeeping operations with its neighbor Poland, in places such as Kosovo and Iraq.
I guess that rules out MIGs and Sukhois, unless the Russians are willing to adopt them to NATO standard? Not very likely is it? 🙁
The close military cooperation with Poland could mean that the F-16 will be selected? Poland operates 48 F-16s and that same number sounds realistic for Ukraine IMHO.
BTW, 48 aircraft seems to a magical number for aircraft fleets in NATO? Is it a standard minimum for small or less wealthy countries?
Russia can surely donate fighters from its invenotry.
You´re missing the point. Russia can surely donate fighters from its inventory. Ukraine like many other former Soviet republics and Warzaw-pact members are not looking for the cheapest possible fighter. They seek independence and freedom -from Russia…
Russia government has new doctorine of privilige status in post soviet space.
A NEW doctrine of privilage status-And why is that? Maybe Putin and co realize that they cannot threaten its neighbours into submission? (Georgia was a pyrrhus victory IMHO.) This new doctrine is simply a “hearts and minds” campaign that is not going to fool anybody.
The biggest problem with MIG and Sukhoi- fighters are that they are Russian designs. Sad but true!
If they join NATO, which they won’t, they would get NATO aircraft when it would be deemed a dire necessity to replace older ones.
If they don’t join NATO, they will likely opt for either large refurbishing of their fleet, or less of the 4++ Gen Russian fighters.
If Ukraine don´t join NATO my gut feeling is that they still want to keep a door open to the West. Even if Ukraine and Russia are friends today I don´t think the Ukrainians are willing to become too dependant on Russian miliitary equipment.
There we would see the usual suspects with good chances for Gripen and Lockmart.
Probably a good guess.
Frankly, once the Yuschenko idiot gets out of office, Ukraine and Russia will be back to good terms.
Hopefully, by then Medvedev and Putin are gone too 😉
Most people didnot know what is Brazil looking for. They were looking for investment/transfer of technology with aircraft delivery in 2014. It is like saying invest money know but payment in future.with complete intellectual trasfer. I dont think Russians operate this way even if it had won there would be problem.
Well, a quote from your fellow Russian comrade:
Brazil, as per FX-2 (36), is likely to select Su-35 due to high ToT, and a long-term future upgrade/supplement with PAK-FA (iirc to be negotiated next spring).
Gripen is just paper specification. No one knows the weight of demo aircraft nor the development budget.
Just a paper speification? It´s much, much more real than the PAKFA 😮
Surely India/China are [not] poor countries that continue to fly MIG-21s in thousands. And neither is countries in Africa&Middleast poor.
North Korea is not poor either. slight change in economic policy and it will afford Su-35.
As I said are you a comedian, comrade? :p
Your comments are so screwed they´re not to be taken seriously. In your mind I´m sure you think Russia is a great country and Putin a great leader 😀 -Geat real!
It is just demo aircraft with no functional radar.
Yet, it eliminated the Su-35 in Brazil where the Russian fanboys on this forum where bragging about how easily the Su-35 would win… 😀
first flight barely 320knots. Nothing like supercruise ability in first flight.
Are you a comedian?
MIG-21 and MIG-29 are still flying and being upgraded despite being built on communist era manufacturing. while most of Saab aircraft from those time are retired.
The difference is that during the cold war the Russians/communists handed out MIGs to any poor non democratic country that they considered an ally. That´s why you´ll find MIGs still around in African nations. What are their options of replacement today? EF2000, Rafale, F-35, Gripen? Saabs export has always been restricted to democratic countries. As a Russian you must find this attitude strange.
The Su-35 might be a great plane but, when you look at its export potential? I only come to think of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, North Korea, Russia…nice crowd 😀
Since Brazil has neighbors with Flankers there is little doubt in my mind they will also reject Gripen NG simply because its unable to match the bigger foe.
If that is true why didn´t the Brazilians eliminate the Gripen in the first round? Makes little sense to me…
At the end of the day I wouldn´t be surprised if the BAF selects the Gripen NG to replace their F-5s and M2Ks. 😉
With the Rafale, the Brazilians might be hoping to strike a deal for more ex-AdlA Mirage 2000s as well.
OK, so the tactics would be to buy brand new Rafales in order to get some second hand Mirage 2K´s? For some reason the Brazilians and the Indians are obesessed with the M2K -we all just know it 😉
During the last two years this has been widely seen as an exclusive face-off between the Rafale and the Su-35.
Exactly and when the real selection began the Su-35 got the boot in the first round! So much for the word of self-proclaimed experts. :diablo:
Is it really a smart move to order the F-16 in 2008 when USAF is retiring its fleet? Is Lockheed Martin going to upgrade the F-16 after USAF has stopped using them? Just curious.
What/where is Iqaluit? Sorry for my ignorance! 😮
What in hell is the Raphel
Of coure he meant the Raphael! I do however agree that when it comes to looks it is overrated. It looks cool from above but the profile…
Boeing B-52 perhaps?
What about the F-84 Thunderjet with its straight wing? Gloster Javelin and EE Lightning also derserve to be mentioned. Just weird looking…
