Dan: Thanks mate, you can’t get much clearer than that.

Transall: I heard about that as well mate, but that’s a topic for a different area on this board! Thanks anyway.

Hey Sean, how are you mate?
Mate I remember seeing a Night Hawk in a digital camo scheem, do you know what happened to it (was it the one pictured above)? Also do you know if there are any pics of the different scheems that were trailed? I know one scheem that was trialed was what we called down here as Navy camo (different blues in a general camo pattern).

MPA: IS that the same F-1 that went to Russia for trials of Russian engines in the F-1?

I’ve been trying to find pics of the 30th Anniversary Pigs, alas I can only look at the one I have on my calender.

I actually prefer the Naval version with the wheels, this whole project is very interesting. I hear that HAL have a bigger chopper in mind one in the 10-12 tonne class and that they are also talking with thr Russians about co producing the Mi-17.

Here is a few of a Hornet at the latest airshow in Avalon, the occasion marking 20 years of Hornet ops. If you look carefully you can see the sqdn badges of all the Hornet sqdns on the side of it.

I see where you aree going on this, it does also fly like a fighter sometimes but it most definately is a Bomber.

Will US skyraider be a better choice?

Yeah if you want to go back say 40 years!

They should really start thinking about counter-rotating props if they want to turn proptrainers into combat aircraft. The torque from a powerful prop engine in a relatively light aircraft (the Tucano Deluxe isn’t really in the same weight category as a Skyraider) won’t make handling the aircraft any easier.

But there again mate the weight would incrase dramatically and the airframe would need major redesign to handle it. IMHO they could do the same just by dropping in a PT6A-75 with it’s increased performance but still retaining much the same size.

Asd I have commented on another site about these planes: “If you want to look at cost effectiveness then adding such a capability to the Skytruck is only going to raise the price of the units as R&D has to be done on it.”

The PC-21 is a really nice plane as are it’s predecessors, but I love the A-29A mainly because it’s got something not see since WWII, Guns in the wings.

Now before I get crisified over that comment, let me clarrify: the A-4 and most other planes of this time had gun it the wing roots. Only the A-1 Skyraider had wing guns, but it’s design origins date back to WWII so the comment still stand.

I think the most important question has been over looked and that is: “Why are they doing this”?

Now that I look at the pics I posted, I see some interesting things:

Pics 1 and 3 are the same plane 00 without official FAB markings

Pic 4 is a company development plane, noted by the civil rego on it. (note also the angle of the center line drop tank as opposed to the wing tanks. And the canopy looks shallower as well- but that could just be the angle of the shot).

Pic 2 is an actual in service plane 02 with full low viz markings, how many do they have in service now?

It does look nice and neat doesn’t it mate? Maybe this is why FAM is interested in them, they’d be cheaper than most other planes to replace the olf F-5’s and better suited as stated above.
