MConrads: Mate as always nice work, but you made a booboo with the Perth Class mate.

Our old DDG’s didn’t have both the Ikara system and CIWS at the same time and only two vessels (HMAS’s Hobart and Brisbane) ever had the CIWS system fitted- Brisbane did two tours in the gulf where as Hobart only did one.

I’ve included a pic HMAS Perth which shows the Ikara system and its location (in yellow) and where the CIWS system was install on the class (in red).

MConrads: Mate as always nice work- interesting how you have placed CV-90’s in the davits of the German vessel, I wasn’t aware that Germany had any of these assult vessels. As for the 127mm gun: are you sure it is going on the bow? A lot of pics I have seen have had guns either on the corners of the flight deck or in front of the bridge where you have the forward RAM launcher. Try moving the RAM to the bow and place the gun there, remember there are newer versions of the 127mm gun, like the stealth version (DDG-1000class) which is lower than the standard gun seen today on ships such as the Anzac class.

I was going to do a thread on the South African LPH deal, but now I am not sure.

Nice pic of the Bolivian Defence minister looking over an L-159, geee I wonder where that came from 😉

Just how serious is the FAB’s interest in these planes? A couple of years ago it was the IA-63 Pampa jets of Argentina, they even flew some into Bolivia for evaluation.

The AT-33’s are very very tired and in desperate need of replacement.

Algeria ordered 28 Su-30MKA’s back in May 2006, the first six are under final construction and flight testing now and should be delivered by years end, the remainder are to follow by 2009. Thus the above pic is NOT fake.

As for the Mig-29 SMT’s on order, Algeria has susspended any further deliveries after the first six have been delivered, as they claim that the planes are not new builds but referbished models that are in poor condition.

Yeah mate, apparently they are getting Two SAAB 340 AWACS, a third SAAB 340 as an instructional airframe and a SAAB 340 and two fitted out as VIP planes.

It really adds up to a nice deal. The question as to which planes they will replace in which role still stands though- has anyone found an answer yet?

Well now that we are one the subject- are there any displays of various other midget subs around?I have seen the Japanese types that attacked Sydney Harbour during WWII, being a former member of the RAN, I had access to the displays on various naval bases including Fleet Base East which has the mid section of a Japanese Midget on display.

I know that there is a Wellman x-craft on display down in Holebrook about three hours drive south of me. One of the few Aussie Wellman X-craft that were stationed in Fremantle, WA where the current Fleet Base West is now.

Any others around- I’b be interested in seeing the German Milchkau as well and even some of the Charriots used.

Some genious on the Asian Defence forum (Thailand section) has presented this photoshop pic of a Thai Gripen C.

Looks nice but I don’t think Thailand would have Fara (Swedish for Danger), on the jet intake, nor do I know many RTAF personel that have blond hair and fair skin.

Still id does give an insight to the Plane in RTAF service markings.

Rog, mate it has been officially reported as I stated, it’s on the Gripen International website, though no numbers are announced- DID (Defence Industry Daily) have stated the deal is for six now and six later and they are to replace the F-5’s in RTAF service but as I said mate getting confirmation in other sources has been hard.

Still looking for answers to the questions I have raised and I have another now, If there is to be only six Gripens, how will they be deviced? 4x C’s and 2x D’s?

Just reading in todays DID (Defence Industry Daily), that Bulgaria has just ordered 4 of the Gowind 200 vessels. This will be a big step forward for them and allow them now to retire their old Soviet Era vessels.

You forget dude, the whole reason why Japan attacked America was because they were the biggest threat to Japans expansion in the Pacific. America also had major bases in the Phillipines.

Britain and America were close before Pearl, the US was sending volunteers over to Britain to help them fight the war.

The question is mute on the bases that Japan’s plans were simply revenge from the 1851 industrialisation of it’s home soil.

It could have been but mor importantly would the island structure have swapped sides? Remember Akagi had her island on the opposing side to other carriers (kinda think maybe this is why she was my favourite carrier- that and the fact that she had three flight decks originally- 2 for flying off and one for landing).

More importantly along these lines, would Ise and her sister have kept their flight decks aft and would they have employed either Helo’s or Harriers?

Always made me think about Moskva and Leningradski if they would have ever been deployed with Forgers?

Oh and Hawk: Mate why call your self Hawkdriver and have pics of Eagles in formation 😉
