Last I heard mate the IN was looking at buying three Mistral class LHD’s if that’s of interest. Haven’t heard anything more, but I have an ear to the ground

a few questions about USS Trenton/INS Jalashva LPD on IN service:

1) what’s the current armament of the USS Trenton/INS Jalashva LPD?

2) Which helicopters should be used by Indian Navy aboard?

3) Regarding the Vulcan CIWS, IN usualy operate Russian CIWS like AK-630 and AK-230. Is there any intention to replace the Vulcan CIWS in order to guarantee standarts with others ship’s fleet?

Hey mate, guess I’ll jump in on this one (not that I jump in on the IN threads much)

1) USS Ternton had 2x 3″ L/50 DP in Mk-33 Twin mounting and 2x 20mm Phalanx CIWS systems, upon transfer I doubt that the CIWS systems would stay but the 3″s might, unless the IN rips them off and puts something usefull in it instead.

2) The IN has a few Ka-31 Helix helo’s at it’s disposal (more being bought) as well as some naval versions of the Dhurv which are starting to trickle in.

3) Well this question I basically answered in the first part (they aren’t Vulcan’s- those are used in the Air Force on planes or in the Army on tanks, the correct term for these guns is Phalanx). I would imagine that the IN would use something more standard to their fleet, logistically it makes sence doesn’t it?

2) How is the Mig-29K progressing for IN service? Have any been made yet and if so are any flying yet?

3) Has the final design been sorted out for the ADS, I mean they have cut the first lot of steel but last I heard they were still deciding on the final details of the ships (I assume that they still are going for 3-4 of these?)

I was at a train station waiting for my girl friend (later my wife, then my ex-wife) to come home from work, she was pregnant with our first child and I was reading the paper which had a great pic of Bagdad at night under attack on the front page and a complete booklet inside all about what was planned to happen. They had all the players listed, us on one side and them on the other (I remember thinking to myself back then that Iraq doesn’t stand a chance with so many opposing nations lining up to have a go).

I remember the inside cover of the lift out, it was all about the planes used on either side and how many were in the mix, odd to think that Iraqs Tu-22 Blinders were what was considered the most dangerous plane in their inventory.

I also remember the hoohar made about the F-117’s and how analysts were thinking it to be the wonder plane that would swoop in and take out all the Iraqi baddies before the main forces got there, of course the reality was that the F-15’s did most of the work, backed up by the Tornados with F-16’s and M2K’s on CAP.

I remember reading a few days later that RAAF F/A-18’s had finally been given the go to bomb, everyone down here was cheering- don’t know why, most of the real work was over by then.
