It’s a totally artificial situation. The indigenous Irish Catholics were purposely outnumbered/outvoted by the British government by settling tens of thousands of mainly Scottish Protestant immigrants in the area, hence all the Mc surnames.
Things can only get worse as Scottish independence looms closer – the ‘Brits’ in Northern Ireland will begin to feel very threatened and exposed, and will react accordingly.

Here’s some shots of RNAS/RAF Lossiemouth 50 years apart…

Nothing wrong with the Browning High Power – and it’s still very sought after among US gun collectors!

That is very, very sad news – been a big fan from the early days. Saw him and Norman Watt-Roy support the Stranglers last year.
I sincerely hope he manages to party on as long as possible, and he doesn’t suffer when the end comes.

Looking at the medals, the AM second left is Sir Philip Bennet Joubert de la Ferté
Could the officer on the left be the Duke of Kent?
The present Duke’s father was in the RAF and died during WW2.
mmitch.
The medal cluster doesn’t look right for the Duke of Kent…
Must have seen the movie hundreds of times, but only recently noticed actors Robert Shaw, Patrick McGoohan, and Gerald Harper…
A few mentions on the web…
Recollections of a 1939 Evacuee

“So there we were, safely evacuated away from the danger of being involved in air raids on Edinburgh, the very first German bomber to be shot down on British soil landed on the bleak moors at Humbie, the second, a Heinkel 111 brought down 1215, 9th Feb 1940, 3 survivors 1 dead, in a field on Rhodes farm at the back of the town, again it was overrun with souvenir hunting school lads during their lunch break before the authorities managed to fence it off, eventually it was loaded on to an artic-lorry known as a ‘Queen Mary’ taken to RAF Turnhouse aerodrome in Edinburgh, it was learned after many years that same German bomber was totally re-fitted and used operationally by the RAF.”
