RIP Florence.
I suppose, going by that bell curve, some veterans of WW2 should still be with us until around 2033…
My brother-in-law was an aircraft electrician with the FAA at RNAS Lossiemouth from the first Buccaneer S1 arrivals in the early 1960s until the Gannets left in ’78.
In the late 1960s he came home with a cartridge and container for me from an FAA Hunter, so I buffed up the cartridge and kept my school pencils in the container.
Recently I had been wondering what had happened to them, as it’s not like me to throw things out, but my son answered that question when he saw these photos – he used the same container for his school coloured pencils and pens, and it’s still around somewhere…:)
I thoroughly enjoyed the show.
The veterans certainly had no qualms about carpet-bombing German cities. If they couldn’t hit specific targets, what else were they supposed to do – drop leaflets?
One thing though – I’ll bet Ewan McGregor was irritating as a wee brother!
Certainly amongst the same model Fords and Hondas I’ve owned, the cars built in Germany have been far superior in build quality to their UK-built counterparts – much fewer rattles, breakdowns and leaks, even the steel seems thicker, with better protected and finished paint jobs…

Here’s a photo of the finished panel as promised – many thanks again to Mick at HHA!

Never really a Beatles fan – before my time 🙂 but Helter Skelter isn’t bad.
Damn Arthur – that’s twice we’ve agreed in as many weeks…

Great photos Gary – I gave my son and daughter driving lessons on those hallowed runways.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that the woods around Dallachy were used for some extremely covert training during WW2, involving a lot of people running around in German uniforms!
I’m sure it hasn’t gone unnoticed by strategists and economists that WW2 very successfully pulled the US out of a very black hole.
Coincidence?
No aircraft, but the scene near the start of ‘Twelve O’clock High’ when Dean Jagger returns to Archbury field after the war, and imagines Fortress engines starting up, always makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up…
These guys have nerves of steel!
I saw a runaway Honda 125 clearing a motorcycle dealership back in the 1970s, and even that was damned scary!:D
It’s just another way of regenerating parts of London at the expense of everyone else in the UK…
