Some beautiful photography – and lots more museums to visit sometime…
It’s the queues that always put me off too – seemed to be much less hassle at Leuchars back in the 1970s, when I usually went by train…
confirmed to me what a bunch of big-headed prima donnas they are
“That line is utter nonsense and quite offensive…
This ridiculous notion To suggest that they are somehow “big-headed” is quite the most inaccurate and stupid comment I’ve seen in a long time.
Wow – being called ridiculous, offensive, inaccurate and stupid in one paragraph is a record even for me – thanks!
BTW – I’ve been briefing military aircrew, both as a civilian and in uniform, for the past 36 years. Sometimes individuals, sometimes to 100+ massed audiences, from scores of different nations, and scores of different roles.
I have also briefed the Red Arrows on several occasions, so I think I’m qualified to comment on the impression they left me in comparison the rest, so get down from your soap-box!
But maybe they’ve changed since the 1990s…
Stunning photography KNT – what gear do you use?
“Typical – I spend one weekend in a Hastings hotel with the groundsheet, and miss the bloody invasion!”…

RAF Lossiemouth is due to have a new control tower built very soon, and the estate who actually owns the land the airfield is built on have stipulated the old 1938-ish control tower has to be demolished within a month or so of the new one going up.
A WW2 K-type hangar was recently demolished to clear a location for the new tower…
I’ve been giving them a miss since the 1970s.
Briefing them during the 1993 Fairford show confirmed to me what a bunch of big-headed prima donnas they are. They made it obvious that they thought they were much more important than any of the other aircrews, British or otherwise.
I’d found the grave of a Red Arrows mascot on the grass behind the Ops briefing rooms, and thought they might like to know, so mentioned it. Their exaggerated disinterest was palpable, and made me quite angry…
Much better photos than I could manage with my little 7 Mp happysnapper – well done!
What a great day it was – I’ll never forget those 16 Spits tail chasing each other around the sky…

They are all at it if they think they can get away with it!

Sounds like some space object entering the atmosphere…
Always loved the scheme on my local RN Whirlwinds – dark sea grey and dayglo orange.
HAR9 XN310 at RNAS Lossiemouth (HMS Fulmar) Station Flight in the late 1960s. The aircraft was lost after ditching in the English Channel 16/4/73…
