My brother-in-law, who served in the FAA from around 1960 to the late 1980s, worked on Sea Harriers at EGDY, and also aboard HMS Hermes during the Falklands war.
I remember him telling me that the FAA at Yeovilton came up with a title for the unit involved in training Indian Sea Harrier pilots – the Sea Harrier Indian Training Unit, but this was scrubbed when they realised what the acronym spelled out….

    From an internet search…
    “37. Diving
    (i) On aircraft in which Mod. 1101 or 1131 is incorporated it is possible to recover from dives to the limiting speed without the assistance of the elevator trimming tab, even if the aircraft has been trimmed into the dive. If the elevator trimming tab is used, it should be applied with care, since it is powerful and sensitive.
(ii) On unmodified aircraft there is a strong nose-down change of trim ai speed is famed in the dive. On these aircraft the elevator trimming tab should never be used to assistentry, but should be used to reduce the very heavy pull force otherwise necessary for recovery.
The flight engineer should be prepared to assist the pilot if required.”

Tempest EJ660 shot down 2 FW190s and damaged another on 23.01.45 while with 3 Sqn. What a wonderful scrapyard that must have been!

Stirling N3705 MG-F of 7 Sqn was captured by the Germans after the pilot had to put her down near Gorkum on the 16th August 1942…

Liam Fox seems to have his sights on privatising the Met Office, from the number of times he’s mentioned it. Don’t know how the armed services, particularly the RAF, would react to that…

The very principle of democracy; rule of the people, every mans opinion is equal.

True, but it obviously doesn’t work for us, where the majority of people in Scotland vote for one thing, and final outcome is entirely the opposite – that fact won’t go unnoticed.
We’ll just have to see how proportional representation pans out…

By the way you must be a mite chuffed that the new Government is reviewing the Barnett Formula and will reduce the annual subsidy by about £4.5 billion but devolve some tax-raising powers including a 10% of income tax bracket.

The new government has got nothing to lose – it’s not as if the Libs and Cons could do any worse in Scotland…;)

Brown is a religious zealot of the worst kind, totally sure he is the man to save the British people from themselves. Don’t think you’ve heard the last from him!
I’ll never forgive him for selling 60% of the UK’s gold reserves between 1999 and 2002. For someone who is often cited as a financial wizard, that deal lost the tax-payers around 2 Billion pounds.
Gold traders and the Bank of England told HM Treasury that selling was a very bad idea, coming at a time when gold prices were at a 20-year low, but this advice was totally disregarded in the frenzy for a quick cash injection. Flooding the market with 400 tons of bullion (the most gold ever sold at one time!) plunged the prices even further. The cut-price gold was eagerly bought up by several Asian countries, including China.
This incident was made even worse by Labour telling parliament that the decision was made on the ‘technical advice of the Bank of England’, and then they blocked attempts by newspapers to disclose the advice Brown received before he sold the gold, which had been collected over the centuries…
