If this life is a guide to his hospitality, I think I’ll try the other hotel…

Googling the serial, the rumour is that Williamsons stored WL978’s nose section somewhere, but I doubt it – so far as I know, they haven’t kept anything substantial in all the years (and literally thousands of aircraft destroyed!) since before WW2…

[QUOTE=pagen01;1562046]Sorry to drift (slightly!), but do you get to see this old girl at all Al?
Checking the serial, she’s apparently now an attraction at Errol Sunday market, but is detereorating fast, with a doubtful future.
Last time I went to Lossie it was on the gate alongside Shackleton MR.2 WL738, which was latter scrapped (possibly in your pics?). Could be – I see it was scrapped in 1991..
Also it is rumoured that the nose section of Shack MR.2 WL798 survives near Elgin, do you know if this is correct?
Nope, hadn’t heard of that one..

I know the vast majority of Wyverns were scrapped at Lossiemouth, and although i have never heard of Williamsons handling any of them it is also quite possible that they did..!

I can’t recall ever seeing Wyvern parts in any of the Williamson yards, but if they were scrapped at Lossiemouth, then Williamsons probably took them off the FAA’s hands…!

    Interesting post.
Surely this site would warrant a more thorough investigation (if allowed)?
I wonder if there is a Sea Hornet under all of that stuff? :diablo:

I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that the wood laminate cockpit sections were Sea Hornet, but they had disappeared from the quarry by the early 1980s.
I’m sure if the owners thought that the place was going to be cleared up free of charge, they would allow it!
Here’s some other photos (posted before) from Brumley Brae taken in the 1980s when it was just a pale shadow of its former glory…

Nice! Found any more treasures besides the Nimrod cover? I think I see a MLG door in the second picture of your second post?

It was just a short visit, and the Nimrod cover was all I recognised, but someone else might chime in…

Excellent photos, is there any pictures or information as to whether the glossy black Sea Hawk survived?
Amazing the local council hasnt compelled the owners to clean up this land.

I have no other information on the Seahawk, but Williamsons were never sentimental about their scrap – I was told they once put 240 Spitfires and Seafires through their furnaces. I’m always looking for old photos taken of this yard, and can remember one of my old 423 (Elgin) Sqn Air Training Corps instructors (Flt Lt Innes Thompson ) taking a lot when the yard was in its hayday.
I think whoever owns this land would rather the site was forgotten about…

I’d like to see that again.
Having grown up near Lossiemouth, with a brother-in-law who regularly used to take me to see the aircraft he worked on (HMS Fulmar Scimitars, Buccaneer S1 and S2s, and Gannets 1960 to 1973), I have very nostalgic connections with the Fleet Air Arm…

Ah, so if you work less than 35 hours a week and earn less than 20k what are you then or what if you are self-employed ?

Also what if you own your own house, does that make you middle class ?

I would say that anyone who has to work for a living (i.e. no private income) is working class, despite the lifestyle and quality of life they have achieved through hard work…

In 2,000 years could Luke Skywalker be the next Jesus?

    I reckon it’ll be Paul Daniels….
