That Jesus was an actual person is recorded in contemporary historical Hebrew and Roman documents. He must have been an extraordinary man of his time, but a lot of the ‘facts’ written about him in the Bible were completed centuries after he died, by people with their own agenda.
The New Testament amazes me, though. Even though it was written when most of the known world was a brutal, bloodthirsty place, the message is peace and love – it is a great manual on how to live a decent life.
What I find hard to understand is how many intelligent people can simply accept that his Dad was some kind of divine omnipresent being, who watches over us and cares for us. I put it down to the fact that people just can’t accept that this life is all there is – they must believe that things will be better in the next life, when they finally shuffle off…

The BBC created this typical 1st century head, based on archaeological, medical, geographical and artistic evidence from Israel during Jesus’ time. Looks a bit confused – “Was that 500 fish suppers, or 5000?”…

Do they still use the MRDs? If so just fire one up to warm the proceedings along!!!

Sicards are still used, but the old jet engined (Nene?) ones were phased out some time ago…

It’s the last day of the Nimrod MR2 here at Kinloss, and there is a big hangar party this evening.
It’s cold, dark, blowing a gale, and sleeting – so it should be a good night!

I saw a USAF F-111 escape pod floating past my office window at RAF Kinloss once, slung under a helo – very surreal! The crew had used it over Scotland.
And who could forget the Australian F-111 at Fairford (92?) dumping fuel into her afterburner? Awesome is an over-used word these days, but the sight and sound of that truly was…

Would that be the german Seahawk that came down near Lochindorb?

No, I think the Lochindorb fatality was a young FAA pilot.
The gravestone in Lossiemouth doesn’t actually have anyone interred – it says ‘Lost at Sea’, and is a tribute to a German pilot of Sea Hawk F101 VB+122 (c/n 6672) of MFG1. Kapitanleutnant Karl-Heinz Lange was flying from Lossie on 14th June 1963, on a weapons instruction sortie over the North Sea, and hit the water without ejecting.

I also recall seeing a photo of a bunch of airmen (possibly 45 MU) getting their picture taken around a war-weary Lancaster, which was awaiting destruction at Lossiemouth. The Lancaster had a large amount of mission tallies on the nose, from memory over 100 missions. Assinging parts to a particular aircraft might be difficult though.
But I would have thought that any hardware for the dams missions would have been removed/altered after Chastise, in preparation for the Tallboy and Grand Slam missions the following year, and Tiger Force in 1945…

It looks like the touch-up has been in RAF Camouflage Grey instead of Hemp. It looks like the same paint used in your 1991 photo of XV233…

Interesting idea that homosexuality, ethnicity and marital problems did not exist in the 1940’s and that no such person with those would have taken part in the battle of Britain. You also managed to slight all people younger than yourself as if they are historical dullards.~
~its just that you come across as an ignorant bigot ~

Nobody said they never existed in 1940 – and that’s Mr ignorant bigot to you…

I bet they couldn’t physically make a film in that way anymore!

I can imagine what it would look like – ‘Pearl Harbor’ compared to ‘Tora Tora Tora’! Instead of real aircraft they had CGI’d Zeros and P-40s maneuvering around like a mach one arcade game.
Must pander to the kids nowadays though, and it would be bloody awful. Who would have guessed that were so many gays, ethnic minorities, and unmarried mothers flying those Spitfires and Hurricanes back in 1940?
Oops – I was going to include disabled people, but remembered Douglas Bader…
